Maybe this has already been posted: Roman Quinn cleared waivers and was outrighted to AAA, but elected free agency. So for the second time, Quinn is no longer with the Phillies.

I’m a little surprised at that since Roman seems just as likely to get major league playing time with the Phillies as anywhere else. I wish him luck and most of all, to stay healthy!

I think when you've been DFA'ed by a team not once by twice it's probably time to move on. He can probably at least get a new minor league deal with an opt-out, or just wait until a team is willing to give him a major league deal if they have some injuries (even if he could still be DFAed again later). As for the Phillies, they would surely sooner give Vierling another look first, had Quinn stayed, and/or they will look for outside help in a few months.

The TLDR:

Maddon (heh), Scioscia, Ausmus

Espada, Ryan Flaherty, Matt Quatraro

Thomson, Long, Dickerson, Wathan (Long and Dickerson are still under contract next year).

Obviously a very speculative exercise, heck, Raul isn't even on it! And I would think the new Iron Pigs manager gets considered if Fuld and Dombrowski are really that high on Mattingly.

Yeah the internal candidate part of that article seems weak. Dickerson and Long really aren't managers. And given analytics and that they work with Dombrowski every day, I might actually throw Sam Fuld and Jorge Velandia towards the top of any internal candidate list.

Curious that Ibanez was not mentioned also as he seemed a hot candidate in the "outsider with ties to the organization" category. I do keep coming back to Fuld though. He just seems like someone that would be a hot candidate if he wanted the job.

I just wonder if Fuld would really want the demotion at this point - or if the Phillies could afford to let him vacate the GM spot when he is the more hands-on person beyond the major league roster (though I suppose Velandia could move into the job if so). Plus unless he misses the road, GM is a much better lifestyle and potential future. Heck I would much rather see Fuld make this hire than have Dombrowski recycle someone from one of his old jobs or longstanding connections.

This article is another casualty of the Athletic not having an active Phillies writer, which is itself a byproduct of them no longer having two people on the beat (heck, when they launched it was three!). Of course the articles will be completely different later in the season.

Kingery and Vierliing recalled. Camargo to IL. I guess Long will try to fix / work with Scott at the ML level. Hope it works.

Easier than adding Munoz to the 40 I guess because you could lose him on waivers, unlike Kingery. Hopefully it's still a short stay (i.e. a short absence for Maton, if not Camargo). Other roster spot is because Wheeler went on paternity leave so one of them won't be here long.

This is clearly a set of "who is on the 40-man roster moves". Vierling was playing well and they probably did need a right handed bat off the bench. With Maton hurt it was probably Kingery or Yairo Munoz. Munoz was playing better but I guess they are already paying Kingery and maybe they have seen some upside in his play.

The other move is Wheeler to the paternity list so they still have the extra reliever. They'll have a decision to make by Friday for Wheeler's next start. Could always send an outfielder (Moniak or Vierling or Herrera) back down then. Kingery stays until another infielder is healthy and no idea if that will be Maton or Camargo.

I fear Maton is out for more than a few days (or the 10-day IL stint). If he was going to be healthy in the next few days they could have activated him because of the additional injury at his position.

Upside - it makes the decision to play Stott pretty much every day an easy one. Kingery will start against some left-handers and it might be Didi that needs the rest more than Stott. Stott may actually be the one who benefits most from the managerial change because it did look like he got buried every time he had a couple of bad games.

Kingery is a necessary gamble. Perhaps being in Philly will give him a boost, but he was just short of a .600 OPS in AAA and struck out in 40% of his ABs. A good walk rate. HIs June numbers as bad as May, but his last two games have been good.

The fact his walk rate was way over his career norm may indicate they were working with him on being more selective, and weren't concerned about his hitting, figuring if he lays off bad pitches he's got a good stroke and will eventually hit.
