This Wheeler thing seems not unrelated to the Sanchez start, even if not directly. Just a little more dramatic than "needs more rest" or "is a little sore," but they could already see it was going on, and wanted the rest for Nola too. It's just crazy they actually have a little bit of wiggle room to try and deal with it on August 25 so it's not an issue on September 25. Hopefully.

Lots of roster moves coming soon. Harper being activated will need to see someone dropped from the 40-man...Guessing Eflin to 60-day.......Guessing Sanchez optioned and Falter activated, pretty easy guess.....What about Marsh coming up in 2-days? Guessing Munoz optioned since Zimmer hits lefthanded....
Then comes Sept. 2: Munoz (if optioned), Sanchez, Appel, Hall, Emanuel) Dominguez will be back then hopefully.

The simplest thing would just be to DFA Zimmer today for Harper (Castellanos back to RF, Vierling plays CF for one night) and then swap Munoz for Marsh, though yeah, they do have the Eflin move.

And the move for Falter was Wheeler. Sanchez is either staying in the pen (which they were considering) or they can bring someone else up.

You only get 2 extra players on September 2. One arm. They also might be better off letting Hall continue to play every day until the AAA season ends.

Zimmer to Harper does make the most sense since it gets the 40-man spot without a DFA. Then Marsh for Munoz.

If they need another 40-man spot it seems really unlikely they are going to recall Camargo now. Munoz is ahead of him for the next injury anyway. Everything else is an option move so will be injury dependent. I do think they want Hall back up here after his 10 days which I think is 9/2. The season lasts all the way till 9/25 so no way they keep him down till then. They just wanted him to get his timing back after sitting for a week.

So for tonight they can play Vierling in CF or even take a 6-inning look at Maton (there is a RH starter) before Vierling comes in for defense.

Probably so about Hall but how is there any more playing time for him now? He stopped playing because Schwarber became the DH and now Harper is the DH. I guess he can get two starts a week (especially as Thomson is clearly inclined to start pacing guys, especially as they've opened up a lead) but the PH spots are rare (and would still require a second move for almost everyone but Hoskins).

I think Hall gets almost no starts. He just pinch hits and it allows them to do so more aggressively in CF and whenever Sosa plays. It is a limited role but makes sense with the roster expansion. Maybe Bryce needs a day off at some point, but even then they are probably better off rotating somebody else. If Hoskins rests a day he could also get a start but that is it.

It really hurts Hall that he can't be at least a bad LF. If he could he would get playing time when either Schwarber or Castellanos sat, but since I dont think he has any time in the OF (even as a disaster) it really limits him. That to me should be his offseason priority, if he could at least be Luzinski in LF he could get more opportunities.

Yeah I was thinking once for Hoskins and once for Harper but you're right about others being better used in the DH spot (and, arguably, putting a better defender in for Schwarber or Castellanos for nine innings might save more runs than Hall adds).

Hall's second best position is Pitcher. At least he is better than most position players at that.

Harper being activated probably means Eflin the 60 day and Munoz to AAA. When Marsh comes back, that probably is the end of the Zimmer experiment.

Hall is in a tough spot right now. He won’t get ab’s at DH and maybe only one start a week at 1B. It might be best to keep in in AAA as long as possible getting regular ab’s. Next season hopefully Harper will be back in RF so more days at DH will open up.

Munoz should never play OF again, which limits his value.

He is as good out there as Castellanos. Just dropped a fly ball. It happens. He has not played that much out there (like 100 games total), so he probably would improve over time. Don't overreact to one play. Every one of our outfielders other than Marsh and Zimmer have had their bad moments out there.

I guess it is not the worst thing to take a look at Zimmer in AAA for a few weeks. He'll still need to clear waivers of course as he is out of options. Assume Marsh still comes up for Zimmer though no guarantee it will actually be tomorrow.

Harper batting 4th tonight (leaving 1-2-3 the same). I might move Bohm up to second and slide Hoskins back to cleanup, though I think Thomson is very big on players being comfortable in the lineup.

This is a good lineup. Castellanos batting 6th and Segura 8th are signs of depth and not weakness.

I’d like to see Hall sub for Hoskins. When was his last day off?

Hall is in AAA the next week until rosters expand. Hoskins at least had a DH day about a week ago. He'll rest once or twice when Hall is back.

It looks like June 18th is the last time Hoskins wasn't in the starting lineup. He has been the DH twice in August (8/7 & 8/16).

Predictably Marsh Activated, Zimmer DFA.

I wonder if Zimmer will just eventually accept a AAA assignment. He just simply doesn't have the bat (today) to stay in the majors, this is going to be a constant roller coaster if he doesn't sign a minor league deal.

That said, the Phillies are the wrong spot for him. We have Marsh who he doesn't seem close to passing. He should find a team with an older CF and no obvious replacement.

Well, probably what, some 25 teams passed on him (since the entire AL gets first dibs) for the Phillies to get him this time? He might stick around if they want him too. If not they should grant him outright so he can at least be playoff-eligible for someone (but who's to say a playoff team would even take him). Either way he probably doesn't finish this year where he start next year.

While you obviously keep Marsh over Zimmer, Long has his work cut out for him with Marsh.

The difference is that Marsh at 24 and Sosa at 26 have time to work on their offense while keeping a roster spot based on defense. But with Rojas and Muzzioti in the wings, Marsh better pick it up next season, or it'll be his last in a Philly uniform.
