Not quite that bad. I expect Segura and Didi to be gone, along with Gibson, Thor, Hand, Knebel and probably Robertson.
That's a bunch of age and money.

Bohm - Stott - Sosa/Maton/Guthrie - Hall/Hoskins
Marsh, Vierling, and Rojas in the wings is speed in the OF.

Really, the one issue is one too many contracts to DH types, which will probably force them to let Hoskins walk.
You can live with one of Schwarber/Castellano in the OF, but not both.
One to 1B, one to DH and one the odd man out (until Harper can return to RF, which will probably be 2024).

Not that it really matters, but the Brewers lost meaning they finish a game behind the Phillies. It matters a little to me because it makes the Phillies beating them out appear "cleaner" and not the result of tie-breaker or in need of some kind of an asterisk.

Yeah, that's nice. It also would have been nice to win 88.

As it is, 87 is still the most games any non-division winning Phillies team has won since 2005. And more than any team between 1994 and 2004 as well. Obviously not surprising since they've never won a wild card of any kind before.

Yeah, it's easy to forget that 2007 Phillies only won 89 games and our two WS winning teams won 91 and 92 respectively.

Also - don't hold me on exact number - but Kapler's Giants are something like the first 100 win and division winning team to miss the playoffs and sink to the 80s since the Phillies.

I suggest that if we had a full season of Bryce Harper our win total probably would have been 92 or 93.

I've re-opened this thread for post-mortem discussions about the just-completed season, which do make sense here.

Going 10-10 in the last 20 games would have given them a 90 win season. That certainly is something that would have been reasonable.

Regardless, the season is over and we move on to post season with three games in St. Louis. Win two, and move on. It can happen.

Who knows? They played over their heads without him and also played poorly despite him in April and May. And then underachieved when he came back (but obviously wasn't right). A lot of that, in all cases, was the schedule. I mean they might have also won 90 games if Wheeler and Seranthony hadn't gotten hurt. Or if Didi and Familia had never played a single game this season.

But what we're not really saying is they might have won the division. Even though the Mets blew a 10 game lead to someone.

Given the Braves' late season performance, it's not really fair to say that the Mets blew their lead. This is not going to be an easy division over the next 5 years; not only are the Braves and Mets good, they have good farm systems. And the Marlins have a lot of good young pitching.

Certainly the Mets didn't choke. But they were in first place from April 11 to September 9. They led by 10 1/2 games on June 1 and seven on August 10. Those were leads, that they blew. Ultimately by losing to the Braves.
