Lots of eye candy on Ben Badlers Instagram for high school showcase video. The stuff pitchers have these days is so remarkable that it overshadowed every hitter video I watched. I was impressed by the a couple of the catchers though.

Noah Schultz isn’t among the best of the best, but he has a lefty delivery and stuff that would make you wonder how anyone ever got a hit.

I think 17th, because the Mets get an extra pick. But we successfully "beat" the Reds.

Mllbpipeline has updated their top 100 rankings. At 15 they have Cole Young, a slender Western PA high school shortstop. I guess every year I’m underwhelmed by the early rankings for the guys after the top 10.

Highest ranked prep arm is Georgia RHP Dylan Lesko at #9- great looking pitcher without throwing ‘too hard’ too young.

High school SS Termar Johnson is the best looking high school hitter in a long time- though ranked 2

This is Long Beach State RHP Louis Ramirez. Not currently ranked in the mlb top 100- he had command and shoulder fatigue issues last year. I’m not projecting him to the Phils, just a fan of that nasty stuff.

There may not be any really good college pitching options at the Phil’s first pick- but the new norm is the abundance of incredible arms available deep into the draft. Seems like how great running backs seem to regularly come out of the second round- great pitchers are out there.

Landon Sims (ranked #18 by MLB) just left the game after throwing a pitch. He was doing that arm shake thing that often indicates UCL.

Oooff, the top pitching this year has to be at or near historically bad. That’s a bummer about Sims- he looked a lot like Brandon Woodruff.

Lots of hype on Druw Jones these days (son of Andruw). The video in the story is kind of fun with everyone changing "overrated" and him just crushing it to dead center.

Slimmer than I thought he'd be- but probably a clone of his father at the same age. There was never a better teen prospect than Andruw Jones. His big league career turned out to be (offensively) kind of Pat Burrell-like. Underappreciated for what it was, disappointing for what people expected. Though one of the best center fielders ever.

Interesting thing about Druw (who is 6'4", 180 but that could fill out to 210+) is that he plays lots of SS now. I think scouts have some thoughts about whether an average SS is more valuable than a plus plus outfielder defensively.

I do think we will see more and more second and third generation minor leaguers. When you combine great athletes with the money their parents are making that helps them get the best coaching as they grow up you just are going to get more Druw Jones and Bobby Witt Jrs.

Keith Law with the contrarian view on LSU switch hitting slugger Jacob Berry, ranking him #27th vs MLB.com #4 because of limited athleticism an a first base profile.
Is he a switch hitting Andrew Vaughn, or Seth Beer?

And then the reverse with 17 year old CC 3rd baseman Cam Collier ranking him 5th vs MLB at 20th.

The names out there in the second half of the first round aren't took exciting, and seems likely there are a lot of guys not included that a team could like more.

I am OK with shorter drafts. Hope they keep allowing $125K free agents though. It is not that much money and it really is right that lesser prospects should be able to pick their organization.

Callis doesn't mention the limit on undrafted players, except to say that the amount for picks 11-20 that won't count against the bonus pool has increased from 125k to 150k. So maybe the same for undrafted players.

Figuring out the first round draft order is going to require a spreadsheet.

And the JC draft and follow is back, baby! first $225k wouldn't count against the bonus pool.

I've seen no indication whether the competitive balance draft picks will continue to exist in 2023.

Remember that the draft changes all appear to apply effective with the 2023 draft - so we're looking at the previous CBA and MLB Rules for the 2022 draft.

When they talk about eligible prospect making the opening day roster, is that top 100? I note that Stott made (barely) the MLB.com top 100 at 97 at the moment. Maybe they are going to redo the list, but Stott could qualify. I guess that is incentive for him to make the opening day roster. I know that was a bad idea with Kingery, but we made Kingery play a new position too.

I wonder if the prospect of a bonus pick is enough for the Phillies to want Stott on the opening day roster if he earns it. Of course then I assume he needs something like a top 3 ROY finish on top of that to get the pick.
