Some nice surprises. Good to see both Morales and Glogowski at Reading. Chris Burke at Clearwater is a sleeper. A little surprised they did not push Jhailyn Ortiz to Reading, especially with only one real OF on that roster in Vierling.

We'll probably see considerable shuffle this year as we see where players really are after their year in the wilderness.

5 NDFAs from 2020 on the Jersey Shore roster. Remember a good college arm should go to High A in their first full season so these players are on the proper timetable. Any college seniors too.

NDFAs from 2020: Blake Brown, Jonathan Hughes, Noah Skirrow, Billy Sullivan, Braden Zarbnisky. Sullivan is the youngest (just turned 22) and likely the best prospect of the bunch. Hard throwing likely reliever that could move quickly. Skirrow was the top-rated by BA (249) last year.

O'Hoppe on Jersey Shore is also an aggressive promotion. I guess there is value in hanging out at the alternate site for a year.

I'm not sure about how crazy I am to see Jersey Shore & Reading back-to-back on the development chain. Players will be going from Lakewood's cavernous pitching-friendly park to Reading's bandbox. Nothing we can do about it, of course but will we see developmental whiplash?

I think a guy like Ethan Wilson goes straight to Jersey Shore (after hopefully a cup of coffee at Clearwater in the next few weeks). And you clearly need to find a spot for Kervin Pichardo....

Just read the recent article in The Athletic on the deplorable conditions that exist for most minor leaguers. I guess I knew they didn't get paid much but with COVID, things have really gotten bad. Host families who previously provided lodging and usually a family atmosphere to a player or a couple players have been stopped by COVID and as nice as this arrangement sounds, I suspect it was limited to only some minor leaguers. I can imagine how extremely difficult it is for the large number of Latin players. Often they are hindered by language and customs, making it even more difficult to live on the meager minor league pay.

I think it is long past time for these conditions to change. Clubs should provide lodging in-season for all minor leaguers at their home city as a part of the compensation package. I find it amazing that clubs would not be making sure these players are eating well and regularly. After all, the players are an investment in the future of the major league clubs.

I would love to see the Players Association make improved conditions for the minor leaguers a factor in the new basic agreement. I would also like to see more fans, especially season ticket holders, let the major league organizations know that the treatment of these minor league players is disgraceful.

They need a union, especially now that MLB controls the system. Probably need to undo that federal law as well.

Yes, the "not a business" ruling is ridiculous. Any chance the present SC would overturn that ruling?

I really would like to see the Players Association take an interest. Maybe they form a parallel organization to represent those players under contract to major league organizations but not on the 40 ML roster.

Haha. I think Congress revisiting probably more plausible, but low priority (same is true of the NCAA/NIL issue, but I suppose given the Court's position there....)

Similiarly, the MLBPA is probably too tied up with dealing with their own issues next year. But they really should.
