Even separate than the Didi decision last offseason, it always made so much sense to add Freddy to the bench since the price was so low. Somebody should have been whispering in DD's ear: "Remember we are a terrible defensive team...."

Torreyes is pretty much giving you what you would want out of a utility infielder (though he plays OF too), reliable defensively wherever you put him and any offense he gives you is a bonus. However, this year, he is having his best season offensively so far.

Time to kick the tires on David Robertson (semi seriously)? He actually looked good in his Olympic 2 innings. Not as much command as one would want, but pretty good movement on his pitches from what I saw. We are just running out of arms for the back end of the bullpen.

Along those same lines, how has Cole Hamels not signed with anyone yet?

I am guessing while his outing was somewhat encouraging to evaluators, it was not encouraging enough for them to give him a decent contract. Teams might have offered a pro-rated deal that would pay him less than $500K for the rest of the season. That might not have been enough for Cole. Whatever he does will involve 3 or 4 minor league starts. I am sure the Phillies can make them all home games near Philly, but it just may not be something Cole wants to do for little guarantee.

Indeed, Torreyes has been the Phillies’ unsung hero. And with Didi Gregorius still feeling the effects of ongoing treatment for pseudogout, a rare condition that caused painful swelling of his right elbow, Torreyes figures to continue to get starts at shortstop, especially against left-handed pitchers.

Phillies get two big outs from resurgent Héctor Neris in relief of Zack Wheeler...

I don't doubt he is, but also a very diplomatic thing for the Phillies to put out there as Didi plays less and less (especially one Freddy's ready).
