Moniak on a hot streak would certainly qualify as a prospect who would bring something back, especially if we have internal doubts about his CF defense. Not that the industry won't have those doubts too of course, but they should not be big enough to prevent some team from thinking he is worth receiving in a trade. Players on a hot streak or having a good season (like Santos who we just traded) are often in demand. A Jhailyn Ortiz might have some value too based on his season so far. Or guys like Williams or Falter. We will have to give up high level young players to get something, and players on a hot streak are often dealt.

And of course, in general, I'm dubious about jumping on nicknames and such - sends the "we're in the club" message that I've always felt is off-putting to people who are less knowledgeable. But again, that's just me. People make their own choices as to how they want to express themselves, and that's OK.

I'm with you on this, Julio. Not only nicknames, but acronyms that abound on this site. Many that I haven't a clue what they mean.

Girardi has called him "Janko" in nearly ever article I've read over the past two weeks. Chooch, J-Roll, Cutch - everyday player nicknames are just part of the game, as is fans presuming that familiarity. (I also find it tolerable from the not-objective announcers, but hate when they use first names).

Obscure list acronyms, OTOH, could probably use a glossary, especially if they are exclusive to the list (there probably already is one for the ones that aren't, i.e. LOOGY, TNSAAPP).

Still not entirely sure why Cutch is "Uncle Larry" though.

I swear I've never noticed "Barves." I've got no problem with Mutts (or "Rags" for the NY Rangers). Draw a hard line at personal insults/feminization, etc.

Done. I got blindsided into wiring 11 pieces of art, when I thought we were finishing up packing for a week in the mountains. But it's done, and I'm sittin' here in 70s weather (with a thunderstorm brewing, but that's normal). All good.

I don't engage in it, but I find some of this stuff funny sometimes if it's clever enough. (We all were juvenile, once, Julio, even you!) Ed "Out" doesn't make the grade.... gNats isn't bad, though.

I think it stands out more now, after it has so greatly intruded into the political arena, with former President Trump having an insulting nickname for all of his adversaries and many of his supposed friends. I first noticed this as truly obnoxious earlier than that, when GWB referred to Putin as Pooty Poot. I guess one doesn't like to hear the guy with the nuclear codes and veto pen engaging in such juvenalia. I remember the Republican primary debate where Marco Rubio and Donald Trump inanely debated through quips, and not at arms length, which one had the smallest penis

Yes... and I don't find it remotely funny. Coarse, crude, juvenile... and you know the people who engage in it (particularly the politicians, etc.) do so because it's the best they can do, because they're incapable of honest wit.

Unless you choose to believe that they're just deliberately playing to an electorate that only responds to that kind of thing - for similar reasons.

I guess I hoped that we, as a society, as a people, were a little better than that.

Actually it was stolen from the NL West. I remember the D-Back fans calling the SF “Giants” the “Gnats” in what was a clever word play several yearrs before the Nationals came into being.

Zach Eflin placed on the IL with right patella tendinitis

The Phillies placed Zach Eflin on the injured list with right patella tendonitis.

He had surgery in 2016 to repair both patella tendons. No word yet, but Bailey Falter or Cristopher Sánchez could replace him. Eflin’s next start would have been Thursday.

They are going to need a starter Thursday if they stay on rotation or Saturday at the latest if they move Velasquez and Wheeler up.

Pretty good argument to see what Bailey Falter can do in a couple of starts rather than Chase Anderson (IMHO).

Girardi: Phillies will go with a bullpen game tomorrow. Matt Moore starts Thursday vs. Braves. No huge concern about Elflin’s knee as of now, but they’ll see how he progresses. Possible they do another bullpen game next turn too.

Of course a bullpen game is fundamentally the same thing as using Sanchez and/or Falter.
