2021 MLB Trade Deadline Deals - Non Phillies

If I were a Nats fan today I would be questioning whether they got enough for Scherzer and Turner. Splitting them up might have been better. They could have gotten Ruiz for Scherzer alone, especially since the Dodgers have had another catching prospect emerge because there are defensive questions around Ruiz. Then for Turner they got one great prospect (Gray) and then what looks like a reliever and 4th OF.

They really should have gotten Gavin Lux out of the deal to slot into their infield immediately, especially because Turner has one more year of control (and Lux has been a little disappointing so is not untouchable).

Dodgers engage Scherzer-Turner Overdrive, but do the Nationals get enough back?...

Rays are getting RP Shawn Anderson from the Orioles for cash. Anderson has an 8.55 ERA and 1.9 WHIP.. which of course means the Rays will turn him into the next Rollie Fingers somehow

Dodgers-Nats Scherzer-Turner mega blockbuster still isn’t quite done. Details remain to be worked out. They are working on those details now, and one would think they find resolution in the next 5 hours. But the Padres are standing by, in case.

Nats should have done better. Granted that Scherzer is a rental but Turner is not and can play this game. Washington should have got Lux in the deal as well.

Right now, it looks entirely possible that other than the Braves getting Pederson--which probably wouldn't have happened if Acuña didn't get hurt--none of the deeply-flawed NL Least contenders will have bolstered themselves for the stretch drive by the time everything turns into a pumpkin at 5:00.

I mean the Braves have gotten better without giving up any prospect. I guess taking on salary (but not a ton). Now they got two corner outfielders which we don’t really need, but still did a good job to improve without giving up anything.
