I counted 12 current Phillies making a million, too, but I hope it's more than that after they can start acquiring players again. I also counted another 15 Phillies, though, who won't make a million this year but who got signing bonuses of more than a million (Haseley, Moniak, Bohm, Kingery, Yuan Lopez, Crouse, Jhailyn Ortiz, Abel, Painter, Stott, Bedrosian, Yhoswar Garcia, Joe Gatto, Taylor Guerrieri, Ethan Wilson). Obviously not all will be playing on the Phillies this year, and some were paid by preivous teams. Some are not even on the 40. But they all got their money.
I don't like "millionaires vs. billionaires," either, but it's a good way of explaining why I don't care for either side's position. If the players get what they want, then most of the money will go to players who would make a lot anyway. Not as much as the billionaire owners, but who cares. Kris Bryant's service time was manipulated, meaning he was underpaid when he was young, but he's about to get a contract that will undoubtedly pay him way more than he's worth in three or four years. Kingery, Moniak, and Haseley will likely never be worth their signing bonuses (let along Kingery's salary over several years). For every loser, there is probably a winner, maybe a few winners. Neither side is doing anything to move money toward people who really need it. Moving money from the 1% to the 2% is not noble in my opinion.
