But yeah, they can pick someone and trade and that seems far more likely anyway, in terms of what other moves Morey needs to make. Seems almost certain whoever they pick will either be traded for veteran depth or included in a Harris deal.

Yes, it certainly does. Honestly I don't mind Harris just playing out his contract if we are going to salary dump him. It isn't that he is a bad player or bad locker room guy, he just isn't worth the contract. He does have some number of games every year that he really helps, and he doesn't seem to mind stepping back and letting others "hog" the ball. He is a consummate team player, I just wish he was on a $10 M/year deal, but he isn't.

I kind of think that even if you see Maxey as your third-best (or second-best) player the Harden/Harris money is still too much to finish out the roster (including 5th starter and bench). Harris is kind of a luxury item as a fourth option who doesn't provide enough of the things the Sixers truly need (spacing & defense). But there may not be a good enough deal out there for him, nor an obvious upgrade from a single player.

If they have to keep Tobias would be a good first step. If they still move Tobias, probably a great one.

This smacks of a typical Flyers or Phillies move: get a vet from the team that beat you in the playoffs as a PR move and in hope he can address a weakness. Sounds like the PR may not be for the fans this time, but Embiid instead.

You already added a 33 yr old Harden and saw his diminished game first hand. I'm not saying Tucker will be a flop, but at that advanced age would anyone be surprised if he struggles and is more susceptible to injury?

I don't mind the signing...in fact, he's exactly the tough leader this team actually needs. Also...that injury history is a bit misleading...he's played more than 70 games 4 of the last 5 years.

The length of time is the issue but he's also going to have no trouble finding a 3 year deal.

In this case it's less the Heat thing (though I agree Embiid basically asked for it) as Morey going after another player he already had in Houston.

The real problem is, if they are going to give up Matisse and the pick to get Tucker that means they already have failed to use those in a package with Harris. So then the question is what does the rest of the rotation/bench look like (and what can they afford). Or how else can they move Harris, and for what (whether directly or with the cap space)?

Tucker opted out. Sixers might need to create space to sign him, but they won't need to trade Thybulle's small contract to do it, nor will they need to trade the pick. Pompey is conflating two rumors and failing to understand that the rumors are independent.

Sixers don't have the available cap space to sign Tucker...it seems everyone is reporting that the deal can only work if they clear space...not sure if it's the regular cap or the luxury cap...but it seems as of right now they wouldn't be able to give tucker 10 million.

But #23 and Thybulle don't help to clear space. Trading Korkmaz and some other small moves give you the $10M you need. #23 and Thybulle can bring back a real asset; maybe a higher pick or a better fitting rotation piece.

Thybulle and pick represent close to $7 million of cap space. But it's also more about how the deal goes down and whether they're allowed to exceed the apron.

Unless I am mistaken they cannot trade their #1 pick unless they get one back (this year or next). They have already traded away next years pick to the Nets. If they trade this years pick they would have none for two years, which is not allowed.

Yeah but Pompey is not a Bob Nightengale or a blogger. And he even got the Sixers to deny that they are interested in Tucker (a boilerplate tampering). The Tucker interest is obviously true and the three-team trade scenario didn't come out of the air either. Phillychuck is suggesting Pompey's cap analysis is wrong or that he combined two rumors that he didn't report himself. I don't know if the cap analysis makes sense or not, but he clearly has his own sources or he would have written it differently. And in fact, the Sixers are probably one of the sources (on background) even as they publicly deny it (because of the tampering).

Of course either Thybulle or the pick could also be packaged with Green but maybe they are hoping Green's expiring contract has its own value.
