The "screaming" report, OTOH, was entirely Windhorst's opinion and interpretations of Harden's actions. No sources.

If the 76ers - Nets are not currently talking 24 hrs before the deadline, that is not promising. Sure, they may have been talking before today and may pick it back up tomorrow, but one would think this type of trade would require a lot of discussions, proposals, counters etc. that would take time. It could all come together in less than 24 hrs, but unless Harden goes public or Marks blinks for some other reason, I see only one team (the 76ers) ready to pull the trigger on this deal by the deadline.

My only concern with this Harden situation is that Morey is so enamored with him that he might overpay to get him...

I think Morey sees it the other way. Ben is the best player the Nets can get for Harden and if they don't do it now, the throw-ins won't be as good in July. And/or Harden could opt-out and the Sixers would just sign him (they have to move Tobias to do that, but would presumably find a way).

That hurts the Sixers this season, but the Nets know he's already willing to hold on to Ben and do that for a better long-term situation (in many ways).

Meanwhile, the Nets could still win it all this year if they keep Harden, but not if he's slacking/distracting.

Whatever's going on and whatever happens, there's no question Morey loves the guy a bit too much, but he didn't cave to Houston either.

Well how about this for a blockbuster idea? Don't make the trade now. Find a taker for Harris in the offseason, Sign Harden, trade Simmons and Maxey for Beal. You'd need to find a 4 on the cheap, but man that team would be unstoppable.

What's the purpose of trading a young, developing player like Maxey?

There's really no reason to add him to a deal to bring back a player like Beal.

Maxey has improved pretty much every facet of his game...it seems like a bad move to trade a developing star for an aging one who hasn't played more than 60 games in 3 seasons.

Seems like a true stand-off really. The Nets have lost eight straight games, obviously due to players being out, but can they really feel good about riding a roster with a disgruntled Harden and a 50% available Irving to a championship.

At the same time, the Sixers are not a championship team as currently constituted, and also can't really do much to improve (especially with Ben essentially unavailable).

I'd like to see the trade happen just so we could maybe get a playoff series. Better than pro wrestling.

This could go down as the all time fleece job in Philadelphia sports trade history. way over Fergie, the Fultz debacle (Ainge is still laughing), Schilling, the rick wise trade.... oops that was the best, rolen's trade etc. etc.

Woj says trade is done, Sixers sending Simmons, Curry, Drummond, unprotected 2022 first and a protected 2027 first for Harden. There are likely other pieces coming from the Nets as well.

If the Phillies never signed Bell and kept Polanco at third from 2002-12, they just might have come out on top with the Rolen trade even if Rolen was the better player. The Phillies did get a good player in Polanco (even though he had a 3+ year hiatus from Philadelphia) so I would not call that trade a fleecing.

You're forgetting the Charles Barkley trade. That one was bad.

Seems like a pretty good trade to me, if still not cheap. They kept the two players they wanted to keep and Harden replaces Curry. Still questions about defense and PG that maybe can't be answered this year (barring another deal or good buyout).

Will be interesting to see what this does for Harris too. Will he not have enough opportunities or will he actually thrive due to all the attention on the other two?

Well, it's not like he plays for the Knicks. And it's not gonna be easy for Harden either! In both cases only one thing solves all.

A little more clarification on the deal, the Sixers 2022 pick comes with a Sixers option to make it a 2023 pick. The 2027 pick is protected for picks 1 to 8, and if not transferred it turns into two 2029 second round picks, + 2 million dollars.

And of course, they're thinking both the 2022 and 2023 picks will be in the 20s.

yes, Zamby you are correct. I thought that Matisse and Maxey were going to be included. much better. although I hate giving up Drummond. he was a bull coming in for Embiid. can they bring Rodman in to clear the boards when Joel is on the bench.
