I think part of the problem is they forced the sixers to activate scott and play a game with 7 players which seems like a hard thing to do.

I thought they did list Simmons out with a knee issue?

It all has to do with the semantics and timing of the injury report. Simmons was not on it Friday night. By the time they anounced it they'd already broken the rule, essentially.

But I still don't understand how you can be "out," which Scott still is today, and also "available."

It seems odd that the NBA looks to be the one league that is NOT expanding roster limits. I think they increased the number of players that could dress for an evening but refused to add 2 more 2-way contracts to increase the roster size to 19.

Dressing more than 13 players seems less the issue than having at least 8. The MLB and NHL have extensive minor leagues and the NFL created a whole backup team with looser practice squad rules this year, but the NBA just seems like they are OK with postponing games or letting teams play with 8.

Agreed...i am not sure this makes the nets better...especially with the Kyrie Irving situation going south.

Nets gave up a boatload for an older player who is difficult to coach. As the Sixers I would not have "matched" this offer for Harden. Nets will be tough in the playoffs if Harden, Irving, and Durant all play 38 minutes per game, though.

With Durant and D'Antoni both in Brooklyn I'm sure it will be a good situation though Kyrie remains an issue. Maybe it buys them a trip to the Finals, maybe not. But I'm glad we didn't give up a 24 year-old and a zillion draft picks (let alone Maxey). Hopefully we'll make the deadline improvements and play the defense to have as good a chance as anyone come playoffs. Seeding probably won't matter quite so much this year.

When the Sixers get everybody back, I like their chances. They now can win without Ben scoring, and Maxey will be instant offense off the bench.

Sixers win and are 9-4...

Ben Simmons moves in to 14th all-time in triple doubles.

At the same age...James Harden had zero.

Not comparing the two since I dont think Simmons could learn to shoot like Harden even on Xbox.

Their bench is pretty exciting right now...they have a microwave scorer in Milton, a penetrating guard who can score at the rim and in the mid-range in Maxey, a rebounding, decent defensive, rim-running center in Howard, a defensive specialist in Thybulle, and a stretch 4 in Scott (when healthy). Joe and Bradley both look playable, too. And that's not even mentioning Furkan Korkmaz, who is a streaky-good shooter. I really enjoy watching this team, much more than I would have enjoyed watching an endless series of Harden "iso's" and Embiid post-ups. Harden is clearly one of the 4 or 5 best players in the league on offense, and probably would have increased the Sixers' chance at a title if they could have traded for him cheaply, but I have no interest in coming close to the package Brooklyn offered, and I'll enjoy the style of basketball they play much more.

I have really liked watching Maxey. His next game will be very interesting since he sort of had a bad run in the second half of the second Miami game--a dumb TO, two forced shots in traffic near the rim, a couple of defensive miscues, and a couple of missed jumpers. It will be interesting to see how he bounces back from his first bad quarters as a pro.

Supposedly walking away from Harden was all about Maxey - combined with the fact that Fertita wasn't dying to deal with Morey.

Ben Simmons and Matisse Thybulle were even informed by their agents on Wednesday of a potential trade, according to sources. A league source said the Sixers were going to send Simmons and Thybulle to the Houston Rockets in exchange for the three-time scoring champion. Houston also asked for Tyrese Maxey and draft picks, according to sources. However, a source close to the Sixers denied that Maxey was part of the deal.

A source close to the situation came back and said the Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta was never going to send Harden to Philly unless he got Simmons, Thybulle, Maxey and two picks.

He got a great deal from Brooklyn, I don't know if he used us for leverage or if any of the players (Simmons/Thybulle) were even offered or if they were just part of the negotiations. I expect at some point Morey will deny that Simmons was ever a realistic consideration from his end.

I think the fact that the agents were informed meant they came pretty close. We would not have given them so many crazy draft picks but Maxey was the dealbreaker, and then they had to involve two more teams.

Brooklyn ended up trading four picks, five swaps, and three good to very good players for Harden. That is a serious haul for one guy, no matter how good (well, Jordan or LeBron or Magic...OK). Your entire team craters for a decade if Harden snaps an achilles or goes seriously off the reservation with his behavior (not all that remote a possibility given the evidence at hand).

But Houston basically got nothing but the picks, in the long-term. Oladipo is a pending free agent who hopes to be traded again this year. Whereas the Sixers had a young, locked-up max player providing most of the value.

I think Houston made out great, mind you, but they didn't go into this season expecting to start a Process. And Harden will probably be fine, but it's still a short window.

Of course, the Sixers may still not win a title with Ben and Joel in the same window that Brooklyn now has with Harden.
