Heat loading up with Oladipo and Aldridge.
Okay, the full trade today was:
Sixers gets: George Hill, Iggy Brazdeikis
Thunder gets: Tony Bradley, Sixers 2nd round picks in 2025 and 2026, and Austin Rivers
Knicks get: Terrance Ferguson, Vincent Poirier, Sixers 2021 2nd round pick
It's a not-insignificant price by Morey/Hinkie standards- the equivalent of six second-rounders (Bradley and Ferguson being a former late-first, Poirier having cost one previously). But that's better than giving up firsts (the young players people wanted) and this what those kind of assets are for when you're trying to win it all.
Just don't know that they can. Still likely to not be favored in the conference finals or NBA finals, and things could still go wrong match-up wise in the second round. But they could also go right. And health needs to go right. Certainly in a much better place than the last two years, and also able to change things up again in the off-season if need be.
Morey tweeted that he thinks they will pick up a rotation piece in the buy-out market.
Also, Redick going to Dallas means he's not going to Brooklyn.
You would have to think someone else is going to Brooklyn. Be it Drummond or Otto Porter.
Jabari Parker would be an interesting look for the Sixers.
I wasn't especially worried about JJ making one of our rivals better, but it would have been nice to get him. I suppose if he'd been bought out Brooklyn would have been his choice.
Whatever happens, it'll be fun. We lose to Brooklyn it becomes about not getting Harden. We lose to someone else we'll wonder if they should have done more. Make the finals or lose a tough conference finals and it's still a great season, especially considering. They're playing great right now and hopefully that will pay off down the line.
Not sure what's left but it seems like the sixers are coming up short in the buyout market...the nets have loaded up.
Still 10-11 days left. I certainly didn't think we were gonna get Aldridge.
Plus, Aldridge has back issues, no thanks.
Sixers finish the road trip 4-2 after beating the pesky Cavs by 20. They've played well without Embiid, something the Sixers teams these past few years have not been able to do. It will interesting to see if they can keep up the rhythm they are in when Embiid comes back and Hill joins the team.
Aldridge now starting at center for the Nets who beat Charlotte by 20 without Harden and Durant.
With all the moves made by the nets and every other team in the east, they still can't stop Embiid.
IHate to say it, but Dwight Howard should be suspended for at least 3-5 games for a forearm to the throat in mid air of Williamson last night. He could have REALLY hurt him, in fact, if it was an older, less agile player he would have severely injured him.
At some point Howard needs to stop this silly crap. He has been in the league a long time and he plays to injure people way too often. He has been a good backup 5 this year, but I have never liked him because he is a very dirty player, hopefully he is somewhere else next year.
Well, it doesn't look like we'll see what the Sixers vs. Nets at full strength will look like until the playoffs. Durant, Harden, Aldridge and Griffin are all out tonight for the Nets.
Is Kyrie playing? I heard he was out for personal reasons again.
He's playing. He's also observing Ramadan.
He should be able to eat and drink by halftime, then...
Seriously, I don't know if the fasting would bother him; but I can certainly see it being an issue.
He's not the only guy dealing with it, but I guess it's new to him!
Well, the win tonight vs. the shorthanded Nets puts the Sixers a full game lead in the East and also the tiebreaker vs. the Nets if they finish tied at the end of the regular season.
Kyrie looked quick and energetic in the game tonight...I don't think he was much affected. Not just for Kyrie, but I would worry about the health of a player observing Ramadan who couldn't hydrate during a game (NBA players sometimes lose as much as 5 lbs of water weight during a game), or was at the end of a daily fast. I believe a friend of mine who is Bahai once told me that there were exceptions that permitted essential hydration and nutrition, but I don't know if that is across all observant denominations.
