So the Royals just announced they've picked Dante Biasi, out of Penn State... described him as a native of "Hazzelton" (trying to share their pronounciation of Hazleton here )
Who's the highest ranked 4YR college kid not yet drafted as of Mid-9th round?
Carter Bins, C, Fresno State at MLB #134.
Former Philly 35-th round pick coming out of high school in Cal. Remember he had a very inspiring story at the time -- tough kid.
Interesting Fact #2.
Who's the 2nd highest ranked 4YR Junior still available in the 10th round?
Eduard Julien, 2B, Auburn. Ranked by MLB at #177 overall.
Sound familiar? Also a former Philly pick -- 37th round in 2017, out of Canada.
Both are still available, if the Phils wanted a re-do on them.
Apparently the Royals are giving Bobby Witt Jr. full 1.2 slot (like 7.9m)
I think I heard that Witt's Colleyville team won the Texas 6A state championship and that three players from the team were drafted by ML teams this year. Witt received good TV coverage here locally since his father was a long time ML player with time with our own local team, the Rangers.
Remaining Unsigned First Round Picks
1.1 Orioles - Adley Rutschman, 1.3 White Sox - Andrew Vaughn1.4 Marlins - J.J. Bleday1.8 Rangers - Josh Jung - College World Series1.10 Giants - Hunter Bishop1.14 Phillies - Bryson Stott1.28 Mariners - Ethan Small - College World Series1.31 Dodgers - Michael Busch
6 of the first 14 unsigned...Stott's not that much of an outlier.
I guess its a matter of perspective. I look at the list and see that he is the ONLY one unsigned from Pick 11-Pick 30 (other than the guy who is not eligible to sign yet.
Given that Stott and Boras both probably figured they'd be top 10 it might change their expectations enough to delay things. I'm like you, though, Squire...the comp pick for not signing him is fine with me.
I'm shocked yours is the glass half empty perspective.
He really was pretty positive a week ago--Squire posted that there is no logical reason for him not to sign. I was more worried at that point. Maybe news this weekend?
There is still no logical reason he won't sign.
If he doesn't sign it will be something that defies logic.
Could it be that the agents are fighting back against the new system in which teams minimize bonuses of the higher picks to sign guys lower down the draft?
1.4 Bleday also playing in the CWS.
So the Mets went way overslot on their 2nd rounder.
Even with a full discount from Jake Mangum and the full 5% overage, the Mets can only offer 3rd rounder Matthew Allan around 2.5M without forfeiting a pick. Either he is not signing or he was bluffing with the 4M asking price and it got called.
