Wasn't the report that Doc was the "compromise" selection -- Ownership wanted D'Antonio and Brand wanted Lue? If Brand is voting to compromise on Doc it wouldn't seem that Brand was getting the boot.

It was reported that both ownership - though maybe not everyone - and Brand wanted D'Antonio. Rivers just changed the whole equation and won them all over immediately.

And for sure, he's not going to have a front office title but he will clearly has some power, and they certainly won't be bringing in any one over either of them.

I believe Brand is still waiting on a contract extension, but it will probably be shorter than Rivers' deal.

Right. It is hard to think that Rivers will have the final (of a long line of people) say in decisions. He is not very good at that role

I don't know that he's necessarily bad at that role, though it's obviously hard to do both. He still had some say in the roster once Frank got promoted, and Frank was one of Doc's former assistants in Boston. Brand has less experience. I think it can be a good relationship, the real issue IMO is still ownership's involvement and/or the rest of the front office.

But if things don't work out over the next two years, presumably Brand will go before Doc goes, and one of of the star players probably too. Murphy pretty much already wrote that column: now that Doc is here, if it still can't work, it's the roster or the franchise, not the coach.

That's not an article, it's a link to a tweet. Does this guy seem like a really good source for Sixers information (even if he is originally from Philly) compared to Keith Pompey or even someone from WIP?

Other insiders who are routinely good sources are reporting that both management and Brand were interested in MDA first, but that Rivers had a great interview process and both changed their minds to support him. Not a compromise at all, if they are right.

The MDA news was prior to Rivers hitting the market as well...

I think Rivers pretty much was a no-brainer once he became available.

Lue seemed to drop to the back of the pack once D'Antonio and Donovan became available, even, it didn't seem like the Sixers ever seriously pursued him, just that he was the obvious frontrunner back when nothing we concrete (i.e. guys like Jay Wright were still so-called candidates). And now he might just get the Clippers job.

Ditto. I'm not sure I would take that for Ben, and I'm not a fan of his. I think Richardson is more valuable than anything in the package the Pelicans are offering.

Hayes is a 20 year old big man who is only starting to develop a game.

you also get two first that you may use to trade for more shooters and Jrue Holiday is a nice compliment to Ben.

I don't love the trade but it brings back a PG, a shooter and a young big.

it's not the best of the trades i've seen but it's not horrible.

Its pretty laughably bad. It is a backup C (college stats... 10PPG for a 2nd tier team, Texas), a PG who has little if any value left and 2 first round picks that probably wont even be in the lottery, so they are not much (remember early 2nd round picks are regularly traded for cash).

He's a 20 year old who was selected 8th in the 2019 draft. The first pick is the 13th pick in this draft.

Jrue Holiday is a 30 year old PG who isnt exactly a no value addition.

Again...it's not enough but let's not understate the talent coming back.

I would imagine the Pelicans would need to add more to make that acceptable.

Actually, he isnt a PG anymore. He has spent less than 4% of his time as PG in the last 3 seasons (although he does get about 7 APG, which is very good for an off guard). He is really just a scorer now, and his abilitiesi n this area are in decline. He cant shoot 3pts still (he has gotten better than his Sixer days before, but he is still around 32-35%% which is fairly bad) and his 2 pt PCT has been in decline for a few years.

At $25M/Season Charlotte have basically a zero net value player on their hands (i.e he isnt worth his salary), and they would love to include him in a trade and have someone take his salary off their hands.

Ben is a better point guard, by alot. Holiday wouldnt help our need for outside shooting (he is below average 3pt shooter), so basically he would be a short SG who would have the same offensive profile as Simmons, just not as good.

Yes, the problem is that they dont really have anything more. They would be including last years 1st rounder, this years, another one and one of their top scorers. I can't imagine they would throw much more into the pile unless Jordan is willing to come back and play 10 minutes a game for us to show these guys how to win.

I am not saying we should never trade Ben or Embiid, I just dont think Charlotte is a particularly good trading partner. I would rather keep the two guys, but if Doc decides one needs to go I would look at other teams that have more top end talent to throw into the kitty.

It's hard to imagine the Sixers trading either star without giving them a year under Doc at this point. The way Doc is talking he's ready to make it work with Horford too. That could just be bluster, or it could be he doesn't have a choice.

There is value in not churning the roster with a major overhaul every year, as evidenced by not running it back with Butler and Reddick, which might have yielded much greater results than making the roster over again did, but since that is hindsight, it is now important to keeping the roster intact for at least another season to see if they can gel and find their roles and be cohesive as a unit. Maybe Rivers can make it work better and get the best out of this roster with just a few minor tweaks.

I still think they have to trade one of the starting five in order to improve the overall rotation/depth. If it's not Horford, they'll see about moving Richardson. I assume Harris stays because of Doc but they want him back at power forward. Still a lot of cap space to spend on Horford as a bench player. They chose Horford over Butler but maybe they should have chosen Reddick over Horford.
