Well Lue still considered the front runner but there was never a rumor really. Just one WIP guy who retracted his report. And Donovan certainly is a good candidate.
For all the talk of "Brand's in charge," it also might not make sense for him to make a hire this big without having anyone else in the front office, so those changes might come first. Or so Pompey is speculating anyway. As much as I don't think much of the Sixers' ownership, it's still a better job than Chicago, and they can pay better than New Orleans or OKC, so there might not be any rush.
What's interesting here, if presumably leaked by Brown or Brand, is how much they seem to be blaming the rest of the front office not just for analytics-driven personnel moves that didn't work, but also coaching decisions.
Sources have said assistant GM Ned Cohen and VP of strategy Sergi Oliva were also involved in the decision-making. Oliva had a lot to do with determining the Sixers’ rotation and substitution patterns based on the analytics, according to sources. He was an integral part of the coaching meetings and presented the coaches with an analytics sheet to consult during games.
