Ben Simmons makes the team around him better even with his lack of an outside game...I have trouble understanding the hate some sixers fans have for a 24 year old power forward who can be a point guard. He isn't ever going to be mistaken for steph curry but his skillset is still special.

I saw the latest CBS mock draft and it has the Sixers taking Arizona PG Nico Mannion.

Please God no. I literally cannot think of a worse 1st round pick for this team. Not only is Mannion unprepared yet to play the point at the NBA level...he cannot shoot at all.

when you pick at 21, you are going to draft a player with some warts...almost every player at that point in the draft will have issues with shooting, defense or some other major skill.

A mock draft past the Top 10 is basically meaningless anyway, but yeah, 21 doesn't get you much of anything.

Also somewhat meaningless to guess who they will take when we don't have a coach or new front office people. When is the draft anyway? When does trade/signing season start?

Yeah I'm not saying they are worthless, but you can't really expect something more than an 8th or 9th piece in the short-term.

Can we trade the pick and Zhaire Smith for Mikal Bridges and Landry Shamet? At least we have MIlton.

Milton was a late second round pick--you can get lucky even picking that low. I'd love to have Shamet back, but I don't think he'd be a difference maker. Now Bridges, he might be the kind of player who impacts wins and losses, and trading him away was a mistake at the time (at least I thought so), and clearly a mistake in hindsight.

Any thoughts on Jahmi'us Ramsey @ 21? Good shooter and defender. I still want the offense to go through Simmons most of the time, so I'd rather have a combo guard than a PG (Mannion).

Edit: Like his form, quick release, and percentage... but his FT% is troubling (64.1%). I am of the opinion that FT% can translate to 3P%, so I don't know what to make of it.

The scouts on the Sixers podcasts all claimed last year that FT% is a better predictor of NBA 3pt shooting than 3% in college is. I guess that's a negative for Ramsey.

I agree (it was a reason that Tatum's 3pt college stats could be improved on in the pros), but Ramsey had 80% more 3PA than FTA. I'm hoping the larger sample size is a better indicator. He shot 42.6% from 3.

You guys think the Sixers actually make this pick? I mean, they also have all those seconds as well as future firsts, but this is a team that either needs immediate help or is going to have to include a pick to move one of the contracts.

I know it's early but there seems to be the idea if anyone is traded, it will be Embiid...the one team I hadnt thought about was Atlanta...of course this is not a real offer but what would you think as a sixers fan...

Atlanta would be sending a package that includes Clint Capela, De’Andre Hunter, Kevin Huerter, the No. 6 pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, and a top-three protected 2022 first-round pick to Philadelphia in exchange for Embiid.

Personally...I would do it.

The team that trades the best player generally loses the trade. I think this would be awful value for Embiid, and I'm not ready to trade him until a new coach gets to work with him.

Murphy wrote about this too. His position is merely that you can't not consider at this point. And that a center-dominant team is not going to win a title (though that's also about this particular center, and what's around him).

You win the trade if the team you have for the next 2-3 years is better. Or if you're trading to rebuild again, of course. You can't actually win the trade per se.

Of course giving it one more year with a new coach couldn't hurt but in the end it really depends on what they are able to do with Horford (and to a lesser extent, Harris).

I want to agree with you but if the idea that this team can really cure their fundamental flaws by leaving the roster intact and just changing coaches is hard to fathom.

The premise of trading Embiid isn't that he isn't a great young player, but that the flaws this team has can't be glossed over with no real assets to trade and no cap space. A trade that brings back good young talent and a premium picks is probably the best you can do...IMO.

Is this true in the NBA? The recent Mike Conley and Paul George trades suggest otherwise.

Edit: And while I would like to see if Embiid-Simmons can improve with a new coach, I think I take that trade for Embiid.
