Can we trade Josh Harris?

Don't see how a new GM would change anything unless they bring in a big name who is explicitly promised complete autonomy, over ownership, the coach and the players. And ownership only just gave Elton more power this season. In NY he'd have less because Leon Rose is in charge (the Sixers don't have a president - that is de facto Harris).

Plus, if Elton's job is in jeopardy that probably means Brown's isn't.

But really, this sounds more like Rose (who was Embiid's agent) is just putting out feelers because he likes Brand. Heck, maybe he likes Brand enough that he's just putting this out there to make Brand seem more valuable.

I suspect that the virus has bought everyone another year but seems more likely we get a new coach. It's not like Brand has ever hired one, or even had the authority to fire Brown before this year.

Sorry...the Harris contract is the price of doing his business and he's been very good.

I'm not really sure why you are bothered by his contract.

Horford has not lived up to expectations but I also think he hasn't been used correctly.

All GMs make mistakes. You change GMs every two years and you generally won't win.

His moves last year fell slightly short of expectations (albeit not by much as they could have easily made the conference final or NBA finals). This year, expectations were higher and in the end, he failed to improve the team (which is to say, any number of other roster-building approaches could have produced the same result or better). But these disappointments/failures don't even approach malpractice level, especially when given the limits on his authority.

All this team's shortcomings still trace back to two Original Sins: Fultz, and not having a GM at all for one off-season. Neither of those things are on Brand even if his repair efforts haven't been perfect.

And I don't care about the Tobias contract either. That's how the system works. Picking him over Butler may or may not have been the right move but either way someone was going to get overpaid, and nobody else could have gotten that money.

FWIW, O'Connor thinks the Brown era is over, that there's nothing to the Brand stuff, and that it will be hard for the Sixers to trade Horford but they'll do it (for either someone else's problem or they will have to include other assets).

How should a shortened (or canceled) season impact the...

It’s my belief — and to be clear, I have nothing to report — that Brown will be gone after this season barring a miraculous trip to the NBA Finals (assuming they take place). When a team has this much talent and falls disappointingly short of their goals, which certainly seems possible given what we’ve seen from the Sixers this season, the head coach is typically the first to go as opposed to tearing down the roster.

Is that fair to Brown? I’ll reiterate my stance that I’ve stated a few times this season: This team’s problems go way deeper than Brown, but he has done a poor job of navigating this ill-fitting roster.

I just wonder if not having a season at all affects things - including not wanting to pay for a new coach given loss of revenue, especially with Brown signed through 2021-2022.

How do they do the draft Lottery on August 25th if they are still playing "regular season games?" Or will those be completed in time?

I would presume both the "season" and the battle for the 8th seed will be over before the draft. It would really have to be: August 25 to October 12 is barely enough time for the playoffs.

Apparently the playoffs could also start earlier if they don't need the maximum number of games for the 8 seeds to be settled.

Personally if I were one of the teams not getting to play I wouldn't want the others to be in the lottery this year.

8 games without travel should take 2-3 weeks. Should be done before the 25th to decide the composition of the lottery (i.e. non-playoff teams). The play-in should also be done by then.

I just realized as of right now...the pick the sixers got from the Thunder, twice, would convey if nothing changes...they are currently 21st.

Sixers could use a #1.

What are the odds of that happening?

Pretty much impossible to say, especially since you can't really handicap anything about this restart based on where things were in March. But they play Denver twice, the Clippers once, Utah once, while the other four aren't too tough. I'd say it's more likely they go 4-4 or better than not, which should keep things status quo.
