Well, the Phillies only want him at one year, so we'll probably get that answer quick. I just don't think he's our guy. A lefty yeah, but we have too many pitchers like him otherwise. And a 2020 rotation with Keuchel and Arrieta both looks like a hole (injury or decline) waiting to happen.

That seems like a good deal for the Braves. I would have been interested in him at that price.

We face the Braves in Sun Trust park next weekend so we should avoid him there at least.We face them again at the start of July where he could be available though I'd imagine thats unlikely.

Given the injuries/issues with Phillies outfielders and pitching and the fact that the division lead is so marginal I'd have to think the Braves are favourites. I'm actually surprised we still hold the lead given how tough the schedule has been over the past few weeks. Reds and Diamondbacks upcoming. I suspect the Reds are better than their record but I think the Phillies can win 2 from 3 in both series.

There's an argument to be made that the Phils are better if Keuchel is pitching for their rivals. He's trended downwards the past 2 years, and now coming in during the season? May not be all that successful of a signing. We shall see.

Sadly it's not that weird. (I mean, it could happen here too, but given the poverty and violence in the DR and Venezeula, and how many players are from those places, such dramatic incidents are not unheard of. Several have involved former Phillies even.)

Cody Allen was recently DFA'ed by the Angels. Does he need a change of scenery or has he lost it? He hasn't blown a save this year (4-4) and has struck out more than a batter per inning, yet he has an era over 6 and a WHIP of almost 2.

I might take a look at him under the right circumstances but those would be either clearing waivers or a throw-in trade if Angels picked up 75% of the $.

Phillies find themselves in second place, 2.5 games behind the Braves.

They will play only NL East teams between now and the All Star Game break. They have 14 games on the next 14 days, a day off on July 1, and then 6 more games until the AS break. This is an important part of the schedule. I hope they can do well and stay with or gain some on Atlanta.

The injuries have taken a toll but I am optimistic that they can maintain their position in second place and at least not let the Braves get too far ahead of them. Of course, ideally they catch the Braves by the All Star Break. Right now, they have a 5 game lead over the third place Mets.

NYY have sent Cliff Frazier down to AAA. Defensively, he's had his struggles, but he's good on offense. Dunno if he can play LF, or if the NYY would even trade him, but he may be worth kicking the tires on. Of course, the NYY would probably want SP back, and I don't think can afford to part with SP right now.

Whatever they need, it would presumably be for the major league team, and we don't have any extra anything.

Also I assume you meant CF, and I doubt it. He's basically Nick Williams (if Nick had gotten to start this year, and run with it).

No. I mean LF, allowing you to play Bruce as a LH bat off the bench- which was the original plan. Also, Frazier is probably better then Williams

Ah I see. Obviously everyone is better than Williams. But we will never know what Williams would have done with the opportunity Frazier got.

I think they just need a CF more now. Bruce is our LF. If Frazier was really good defensively different story.

It's a good bet that NY will use Frazier in a deal for a starter. They'll be in on the same group of guys as the Phillies....Bumgarner, Stroman, etc.

Surprised this isn't in the Phillies News/Notes thread but, as I said in yesterday's game day thread, the Phillies just played back-to-back the two hottest teams in the NL if not in all of MLB in the Diamondbacks and Braves. Sometimes, you just come up against teams when they are hot and everything is clicking. Hopefully, seven games against the Nationals and Marlins will help give us a more positive vibe a week from now.
