This is the guiding principal I hope is echoing throughout the walls in the GM's office.
McCutchen, FA end of year from SF and Castellanos, controllable through 2020, would be major offensive upgrades over Williams for the starting role.
Escobar, FA end of year from Minn. and Cabrera, FA end of the year from Mets and Duffey, controllable through 2020, would be a major upgrade over Kingery
Yates and Iglesias would help the pen, and are controllable beyond this year.
With Suarez getting called to pitch tomorrow, I am guessing Rios gets sent back, this must mean Pivetta is on his way to the pen or perhaps he will be sent down. So is a Happ trade in the works?
Quinn should be added soon. And any of these three upgrades mentioned above, are going to cost, some more than others.
Since Machado is off the board, the players I deem acceptable to dangle include: Hunter, Taveras, Rios, Anderson, Gomez, Cozens, Randolph, Eshleman, Leiter and for controllable players: De Los Santos, Brito and Moniak - would any of the above players be available for any of these players?
Just my two cent thoughts - stick with the rebuild and improve without blowing up the rebuild blueprint
