2018 Trade Deadline rumors/speculation

Well, how does it compare to the Chapman trade? That was the really high-end deadline deal of recent years. Others have been more modest.

I don't believe it is four guys for just MM either and who knows which names are even correct (employees and ex-employees are just gossiping like the rest of us, even if they are scouts. I know of a high-up at one franchise who is currently scouting his own team's system, but that doesn't mean he knows who is actually available, or in what deals).

But, it isn't that far a ride from two big names to three big names, if you're truly trying to win a three-team bidding war. We'll see.

And if it's Franco, you have to remember that the Phillies want to trade him. We may rightly worry about losing him based on what he's showing right now but he'd be their first choice of the three major leaguers.

That would be the biggest (face value) rental trade maybe ever.

That's the package they MAYBE could have gotten last year. This whole "Middleton won't be outbid" theory is something you want in free agency, but not during the season when the currency is our farm system.

Remember the Yankees were unwilling to give up a single top 10 prospect. I doubt the final deal will have multiple top 5s (like Medina, Haseley). Maybe one. Or the deal is larger giving us Britton or maybe some international money.

All speculation now of course. Machado will demand a decent package. But the era of outsize packages for pure rentals (even if for one of the 10 best players in the game) is probably over.

I don't think MacPhail and Klentak are going to let Middleton force them into something that they think would be catastrophic. They can see everything that we can see. He may be brash but he also knows to let his people do their jobs. MacPhail specifically said reports of Middleton wanting to make a "splash" were ridiculous. Granted he would say that just to preserve their negotiating position, but I hope it's true.

Yes, it takes big league reps to adjust, but Kingery was the guy getting those reps, even before Crawford was injured. The PHillies have given every sign of giving up on Crawford as a SS.

As I've written before, that's too much by a lot.

That's #3, #5, #10 prospects (roughly) and Franco.

That is too much for me. Take Haseley out and it is closer to fair. Of course I am of the opinion that Franco has little value because of his defense which makes it fine to put him in any deal. I am resigned to giving up one top prospect and Medina is further away (so riskier) than some others we have in AA and AAA. And Gamboa is easy to deal from depth if we keep Crawford.

It really should be Haseley or Medina.

If it really is 4 names then the Phillies better be darn well they are signing him long term or this deal will be a disaster.

I cant see the trade being for those 4 guys. It just seems like a bit too much. Haseley or Medina I can live with...not those 4 players.

I still find it strange that they would come to an agreement two days before its going to be announced. Why would the Orioles close out the bidding two days before its going to be announced? I think its the Orioles that are leaking this in an effort to get a higher offer from one of the other teams. Which could very well happen and we will be left with nothing.
