My friend says deal is near done or done. Sounds like players are agreed on by Phillies and Orioles and it's a matter of t's and i's. Obviously won't be announced because all-star game.

This is the worst sports week of the year. Nothing happening in the other 3 major US sports and the week off for baseball (no, I dont count the All Star game), so at least this is giving us something to discuss.

That would be an incredibly stupid position for the Phillies to take. It is the very definition of setting yourself up to be trapped into bidding against yourself. For all they know they already had the highest offer and were duped into upping it by the Orioles announcing that we were in third position. The Baltimore brass are playing this very well. I've never seen the Phillies try to be this manipulative and use the media for our advantage. Yes, Machado is a big name. Cliff Lee also was a big name. Yes, RAJ was told he had to trade Lee. The pressure to trade Machado is not less intense. "Phillies won't be denied and they are on Defcon 1 alert". How utterly foolish.

SDeal done in principle this morning for Machado. Issue was Phillies did not want Milwaukee swooping in at last minute with upped offer. Will be playing for Phillies on Friday. Cannot be announced until after All star game. Deal haseley, Franco, gamboa. Need to look up thread to be sure.

Haseley, Franco, Gamboa doesn't fit the Oriole's pitching needs, and seems to be too much for a rental (IMHO). I'm sure no one is listening to me about this, though.

That is an atrociously large cost for a rental. I would do 2 of those, maybe 3, but not 4. Just way too much for a guy who is stating he will not sign.

Good news is this rumor is nowhere that I can find in main stream media, so I am optimistic it is exaggerated or just false.

The Orioles are obviously smart enough not to focus on immediate needs in a losing season. If so, they'd ride out the year with Machado. They are looking to the future. Just as in the draft, it comes down to BPA. If this is the deal, then we gave up a lot of BPA for a rental and they have Franco to play IF with Machado gone. I think Gamboa is a better prospect than Crawford and possibly the best SS in our system. Haseley is the one top first round pick whom we seemed to hit on in that three year period, the only OF on the farm who clearly looks like he can become at least an average MLB starting OF (Ortiz could be even better than that, but very young and hasn't shown all that much yet; Moniak is young enough to still make it; Randolph is pure bust). Medina is our second best pitching prospect. With Sixto injured, he might actually be our best pitching prospect. So what if he isn't ready today. The Orioles aren't close to ready today.
