The Orioles are obviously smart enough not to focus on immediate needs in a losing season. If so, they'd ride out the year with Machado. They are looking to the future. Just as in the draft, it comes down to BPA. If this is the deal, then we gave up a lot of BPA for a rental and they have Franco to play IF with Machado gone. I think Gamboa is a better prospect than Crawford and possibly the best SS in our system. Haseley is the one top first round pick whom we seemed to hit on in that three year period, the only OF on the farm who clearly looks like he can become at least an average MLB starting OF (Ortiz could be even better than that, but very young and hasn't shown all that much yet; Moniak is young enough to still make it; Randolph is pure bust). Medina is our second best pitching prospect. With Sixto injured, he might actually be our best pitching prospect. So what if he isn't ready today. The Orioles aren't close to ready today.
