Personally, I am surprised that JoJo Romero's name has not been mentioned in any MM trade talk. He is not only pitching very well but seems on a fast track to the majors. He probably could be pitching in Baltimore by September.

By the way, just as an addendum, SoCal people are convinced the Dodgers are getting MM, they tend to believe he is theirs in the end. Talk here is that they would move Saeger to 3rd base next year and trade Turner.

I’m fine giving up Haseley - clearly not enough power to be a seriously plus RF, and Odubel is on a team friendly contract until 2021 (he won’t even be 30 by then), at which time Matt Vierling or Sam Muzziotti (or by some miracle, Moniak) or someone else will probably be ready to take over if they need to move off of Odubel.

Gamboa is probably the one I’m most loathe to move...though with Kingery, Maton, Guzman, etc. I probably should’t be. I certainly would rather keep Medina, but have to give to get and Sixto has the bigger upside.

I am a little surprised too though leaks are probably more pointed to the flashier names like EDLS, Medina, and Eflin. I imagine teams want him. But since Medina ranks ahead of him they ask for him first.

I do wonder a little bit if today's De Los Santos start is a showcase for him to be the major league ready pitching piece in a deal. I have to think he ranks behind Eflin and Pivetta and VV in the Phillies' thinking, so if they can protect their current high end arms and give up EDLS it would be a plus.

Well, we don't know if J-Roll, Utley or Hamels would have come to Philly as free agents. And even though Lee and his wife loved Philly, Children's played a role in their decision. But so did the money.

None of us know what these guys are thinking or what their lives are like. These guys only spend like 100 days a year in their team's home city anyway. Machado is married. He doesn't live in Baltimore, he lives in Miami, and Philly is just as close (especially if Middleton lends him plane on off-days). LA may be hard to beat for climate/culture, but not if he wants to stay in Florida.

Olney's source now saying talks at the 10-yard-line with Phillies, Brewers, Dodgers in the mix. Machado is playing now (in a rain delay but did hit HR number 24 earlier).

Nothing is going to happen until Wednesday, after the All Star game. Machado is the O's lone rep, and a voted in starter, I'm sure the league won't want the trade to happen before the game, it would create too many issues.

The most analogous situation was when the Cubs traded Samardzia to the A's just before the break. He was the Cubs lone rep and he stood on the baseline for introductions on the NL side wearing a NL batting practice jersey and a generic ASG cap.

One never knows. He could easily be traded this afternoon and the deal being mostly done could have been the reason to pull him. I don't think the ASG means anything in terms of when he is traded.

I think with Angelos it does, even if the sons are calling the shots. The game is down the road, and MLB wants him in it (and he can only play for the AL). Of course it would be bad if the trade is reported as being done before the game happens because then it would take over the press.

It has never happened before but the O's would get a replacement if Machado is dealt. And an injury from an NL player could sneak him on that roster.

He really has a blister, he was pulled two starts ago because of it, and probably shouldn't have made his last start.

It's much more likely Eflin was held out because Baltimore wants to see De Los Santos one more time to determine if he is good enough to be the headline piece of the Phillies trade for Machado.

No way the Phillies do that as a trade showcase at the request of another team. You let his AAA numbers and his one start speak for itself. One game isn't going to tell them anything years of video and scouting reports can't tell them already.

NOT held out because of trade talks. NOT held out to showcase De Los Santos. And no, the moon landings were NOT faked.
