Harper has not had a Trout like career, he's been up and down, so who is the true Harper? Has he flatlined (like many players who start early do) or can he reach his 2015 performance again. One reason guys who start early don't show linear improvement is because they tend to be physically mature at a young age, and after 4-5 ML seasons, generally, you are who you are - so by 25-26 they're pretty much established.
Whereas Hoskins has been brought along relatively slowly, like Howard. Unlike Howard, he's a much more disciplined hitter who seems more willing to adjust as pitchers adjust to him. Howard put up great numbers from age 25-29, .924, 1.084, .976, .881, .931, then injuries and his stubbornness brought him back to earth.
What stands out with Hoskins is how his BB% has increased at every level, the norm is for it to decline as pitching gets tougher, and only recover as the player learns to lay off pitches he can't hit. That suggests there's something special about Rhys.
