Yeah, I just don't think Cole was the guy. He wouldn't be signing an extension. And he's (sorry) not an ace. Still really good of course. I just think he'd have to come with either an extra year of control or bit more WAR between the last two season (a la 2015) to have caught the Phillies' interest, and to have been worth more in a trade.
Conversely, he's probably cheaper than the players the Phillies like for those reasons.
To me Moran would be more like Nick Williams (since the Phillies don't have any similar infielders). Franco (more a bust than a prospect) is not good enough and Kingery is too good.
And Martin is the Astros' 15th-ranked prospect, and the Astros still have a good system. I mean, Cozens is probably about right, but he's still highly ranked, are we ready to call Cozens a throw-in?
Maybe Knapp would have been of interest too. Still, let's say Williams, Pivetta, Cozens and a reliever. It is palatable, but I'm still not sure it's worth it for just two years of a guy, when there are alternatives. They just have to actually land one of them.
