Well, Peterson would presumably be one of the goaltenders if Hart gets traded, and maybe someone you hope bounces back and can be traded again. And Torts already seemed done with Sandstrom (who might have trade value of his own). The Russian prospect is still not in play next season (never mind NHL-ready) next season right?

Are we going to trade Torts also? Can't imagine he has an interest in a build. (It isn't a rebuild as some might call it, there is no re-)

Kind of not the job he signed up for or the guy you necessarily hire for that job, but he seems to be fully bought in to the re-build, and in fact, accelerated it by both his actions and words. He's also obviously got as much power as Briere and Jones (as in, if those guys had wanted to fire him they wouldn't have gotten the job).

But will he be around to coach the Flyers in a playoff game, let alone a late round? Longshot. But he has a Cup already and there's probably not another job that is easily there for him three years from now. Maybe he gets to stay long than that, or maybe he's happy to transition into an advisor role (and gets to promote one of his assistants).

This was a really good trade for the Flyers and Provorov. Reading between the lines, it sounded like Provy wanted a change of scenery and he wasn't in the Flyers future plans, so getting good value in draft picks is a big win. I like that they have 4 firsts in the next two drafts, hopefully they can acquire more so that they can get a solid core on the same timeline. Still lots of work for Briere to go but a good start. So weird that the NHL allows trades to be announced during the cup finals, they do not care.

Can they trade Hayes & Ristolainen this summer?

I imagine Couturier might be a deadline trade, after showing that he is healthy, and if he is playing like before the injury he should be able to return a first plus. I think DeAngelo would be a deadline trade as well, if Torts show cases him. I read that Walker might be a deadline flip for a 3rd or 4th, I'll take it.

Problem is Hayes and Risto probably bring nothing in a trade because of their contracts. Maybe if we eat most of the contracts they could bring a minor player or pick, but they're just idbt value there.

Hart on the other hand should bring a windfall still. Maybe 2 1st round picks?

They will definitely trade Hayes and pick up the salary, but you can only do that three times so they will probably have to leave it at that. don't think they actually want to trade Risto, and maybe not D'Angelo either. That's certainly another way to tank!

Ideally you can move Atkinson and D'Angelo at deadline without picking up salary. If they trade Risto Couts may have to stay until Provorov comes off the books.

Or they could buyout Hayes.

They can also use Hart to make someone take back a player/salary, though hopefully not at the cost of a lower return. I still have a hard time believing they will trade him before the World Juniors investigation finally ends, unless they are wanting to trade him fast for exactly that reason.

I imagine the flyers eating part of Hayes contract to up the return, even still I am not dreaming of firsts. Risto I would think could have a better return than Hayes, although i can't see them getting back what they invested I think they should move him if they find someone willing to dance.

Deangelo has one year left on his contract, which is why I think he has to go before the trade deadline.

Ristolainen and Atkinson don't fit into the long term plans, so if they can trade them for something worth while they should.

Couturier I think is a good leader and if they need to keep him around to get rid of the other vets I'm all for it.

Did the Flyers eat any of Provorov's salary? I saw the Kings ate 3m, i haven't seen anything saying the flyers are eating salary. In any case, I think the flyers should eat as much salary as they can over the next two seasons for draft picks and just play cheap players.

Oh good point I just assumed the Flyers were picking up salary on Provorov but they probably aren't. They took on those contracts and LA picked up that $. So he wouldn't apply to the three-player limit if so, which is another smart play.

It looks like TK is on the block, I don't like it but it makes sense and I'm fully on board with a rebuild.

Keep an eye on Mike Sullivan. Torts protege, on a 3 year extension given by Hextall, Dubas may not feel committed to him if the Pens struggle the next couple years. I can imagine him taking a year off as an advisor to Torts, then taking over the reins. Stranger things have happened.

Flyers also have an extra 2024 2nd (#51) when they don't sign O'Brien this summer.
Briere is open for business, but other than Hayes, I think it depends on what's offered.
Have to balance their value to the rebuild v what they can garner in trade.

Laughton is a good example, Torts loves his energy, but he's 29, if you're offered a 3rd, he stays as a mentor to the kids, if you're offered a 1st, nice knowing ya.

I think Laughton is a great 4th liner and a good 3rd liner. I'd take a 3rd and not think twice.

He's also an excellent PK guy and a PP2 guy.
Players with that kind of versatility, combined with high level intangibles, have a lot of value to playoff teams.
A 3rd rd pick would be selling low.

And he has zero value to the flyers except for mentoring youngsters at $3M+ a season. Other teams know this.

I'm not following the Pens but I got the impression one of the reasons Hextall and Burke got fired is because Sullivan had more power with the new owners than they did (and was not happy with Hexy). He may have signed off on Dubas and/or will transition to the Pens' front office himself.

I think the next Flyers coach probably already works for the Flyers or the Phantoms.

I think everybody is on the block. If the Flyers were seriously willing to tank and/or wanted to try and not spend to the cap they could take almost any offer. But they aren't and don't, so they can pick and choose while trying to maximize returns.

But "other than Hayes" is also correct. It's possible they get nothing for him.

That's what I think too, they have at least two years to move most of the contracts so they just need to be patient and wait for good deals.

What is the timeline for Couts? Because he definitely will.

Well, that was obviously the line of succession before and is probably what makes sense now (as well as the reason they didn't give it to anyone last year), but for how long? (As far as your question about the timeline, he should be on the ice opening night if he doesn't get hurt again. But will he be a year later?)
