Be excited but don’t forget the kid is 19. The key is where they are after the 2025 draft.

I will just be happy if Michkov shows flashes this season. At 19 it would be a miracle to get consistent production from him this year! His pre-season has been really encouraging. Will be interesting to see how Torts arranges the lines and pairings for real games.

Totally agree. I think he will be pretty good but he is only 19. He is a good piece.

You only have to look at Conor Bedard and Adam Fantilli's rookie years to level out your expectations.

Michkov has better players around him, he'll have Frost or Couts at center, Tippett, Farabee or Foerster at LW.
He'll have 40+ ES points and probably 20-25 PP points.

Well, that's about what Bedard had (in total points). What Michkov might not be is -44.

The biggest thing for Michkov is to stay healthy and be able to learn a ton about playing at this level. Get to know your teammates, gain Tort's trust and settle into the NHL routine.

Konecny, Tippett, Foerster and Farabee are already at or above the 20 G mark. And then we have a ton of guys in the 10-15 range, which you need to have.

I like our present and future goalie assets.

I like our D, but it needs to mature.

The Bruins' negotiations with Jeremy Swayman are going south in a hurry. It seems there's an opportunity for a team to jump in with another goalie and a pick or two if they are willing to pay Swayman what he's asking. It seems he's asking for at least $9 mil a year though.

Looks like Luchenko might make the opening roster. I’m sure the Flyers are looking at the waiver wire, but I’m not sure they’ll find someone with more potential.

Flyers must have really annoyed the league office. Starting the season with a West Coast trip, that is really tough.

What is our need going to be? Goaltending? Defense? Last years big fatal flaw was the laughably bad Power Play. I fear that Errsson’s surprise season was an illusion. His play at the end of the season can either be blamed on exhaustion or the league catching up.

Torts is never going to be one of my favorites. I hate guys that go to the press to demean his own players, and he does it constantly. It is classless and it makes the players hate and distrust him. I keep hoping this is his last season, everyone tells me how great he is, but when the players don’t trust the coach (as I greatly suspect) there is a big problem.

I thought I heard the Flyers request that early season West Coast trip to get it out of the way and not have to compete with the Playoff Phillies and Eagles.

I assume they also would put a stop to going out West every Christmas if they didn't want to. But aren't both things better than doing it in February or March, if you have playoff aspirations.

For years the Flyers have allowed Disney On Ice or some such program to book either the WF Center or, in the past, the Spectrum for the last week or so of the year.

Ersson wore down last year b/c he started 31 of 36 games down the stretch.
Given the alternative was Peterson/Sandstrom, it was a "Gene Mauch" move to try and make the playoffs.

As long as Fedotov is better than those two, Ersson should be limited to 50 games or so.
Goalies need recovery time, 2 starts a week is optimal.

Torts doesn't demean his players, he just doesn't sugarcoat things or throw out cliches.
When you listen to his pressers, you actually learn something.
I'd point out that Stoutland is probably tougher on his guys (known for some very colorful language).
A few former players hate him (mostly marginal guys), many of his former players laud him, like Martin St. Louis.
The thing with Torts is his doghouse has a swinging door, everyone seems to spend some time there, but work hard and you're soon out.

The defense is more settled and Johnson is the 7th defenseman

That 3rd line could cause some trouble on the offensive end. Lots of speed and skill. They might also give up more than they get.
