Yeah, if you don't end up going pro the CHL pays for your college (and still will after your pro career with some restrictions I think). But it's still not very much. $10,000 CAD or $15,000 USD. That works for the Canadian players for the most part, as tuition is lower than that at public universities. American not so much (and not even close if you aren't in-state), which is probably also why you don't see that many American players who aren't prospects in those leagues. They are much better off progressing through the US junior tiers and playing college hockey, whether it's D1 or D3.
