This is why I was fine with 5/6... but because I like Eklund. A better skater than Frondell and decent passer to go with a scoring touch, and he plays bigger than his size.

Off topic, but since we're talking about hockey... A son of someone that I used to play hockey with recently committed to the Blackfalds Bulldogs of the BCHL. I'm excited for the kid.

That's Canadian junior A, it's meant to get you to college if not the NHL draft. Then you might get NIL (if you go to college in America, that is).

Between NIL and the fact that major junior no longer makes you ineligible to play NCAA hockey we'll see a lot of changes throughout the game over the next couple of years.

Isn't a conference finals appearance enough to make you pick 29 or 30? But neither team will be favored to even win the first round, let alone the second.

The other side of the formula is hoping one or four lower seeds advance to the finals and leap frog the picks.

I don't want to speculate, but I assume the college route for him. I last played against him in a friends and family pickup game when he was ~15. He was very good, but I didn't think NHL good. Still, it's a great opportunity whatever he wants to do.

It's a great league. It will be interesting to see if anything changes for these leagues (in the US too) given their business models are based on not having to pay players and keeping them NCAA-eligible.

I didn't realize this, but watching OHL games, it turns out they have scholarships based on years in the league, so play from 16-19 and it'll pay for 4 years of college if you don't make the pros.

He's not a good enough skater.

Yeah, if you don't end up going pro the CHL pays for your college (and still will after your pro career with some restrictions I think). But it's still not very much. $10,000 CAD or $15,000 USD. That works for the Canadian players for the most part, as tuition is lower than that at public universities. American not so much (and not even close if you aren't in-state), which is probably also why you don't see that many American players who aren't prospects in those leagues. They are much better off progressing through the US junior tiers and playing college hockey, whether it's D1 or D3.
