I’m not a fan of hockey as it doesn’t translate well to television. Lots of action, but not a lot of scoring. Mr. SF was a big Flyers fan so I learned the rules. I just find it boring. He swore it was really a great game to go to in person.

Flyer turn a tight game into a laugher late beating the Maple Leafs 6-1. Hart was great early didn't need to do much late, even the goal he let in was a fluke. The only bad news is they lost Raffl to a broken finger and he'll be out for about a month.

I turned the game on last night with about 13 minutes remaining, thought I was jinxing them when Hart let in the tying goal off of a high bouncing save that doinked off his back and in. Then I got to see 5 goals in 10 minutes for the good guys! Myers looked awesome; assisted on 3 goals.

Flyers’ Oskar Lindblom has Ewing’s sarcoma cancer, is expected to miss rest of...

Scary to read for me in particular, as my little cousin just passed away from this. Luckily, that is fairly unusual now, but still terrifying for him and his family. This is probably pretty bad for an athlete to get and continue, but I am not a doctor and really dont know. Hope he gets well soon, he is on the older side to have this diagnosed, I will let medical experts on the board comment on that effect.

So, off topic, but well, a personal issue. If you havent please consider registering to donate blood marrow. I have matched 3 times in 20 years, and the rumors you hear are correct, it does freaking hurt. That said, it si a very small price to pay to help someone. Takes 20 minutes to register, your doctor can help you, they do have to draw blood to do it as I remember.

This is really horrible to hear. I saw that he was out for the year but I assumed it was a standard injury.

I want to thank you for your comment here because it spurred me to check if I can donate. I assumed the answer would be no as I have never been able to donate blood due to living in the UK in the 80s. Anyone who lived in the UK between 1980 and 1996 is banned in most countries from donating blood due to risk of passing on Variant CJD (Mad Cow Disease/BSE). It seems that this ban has finally been lifted in Ireland so I now have no excuse not to become a donor. I'm going to try and give blood for the first time in the next 10 days, basically as soon as I can confirm I'm allowed to donate and can get to the local clinic.
I will look into donating marrow as well.

I'm a little annoyed though, because I really hate needles!

Just terrible news for Lindblom, I don't care if he ever plays hockey again, I just want him to beat this and live a long and happy life. From the hockey side, this couldn't have happened at a worse time for the Flyers, who have been playing great hockey, with Konecny and Patrick out and Rubstov and Ratcliffe also struggling with injuries on the Phantoms and not ready to come up. JVR has to really step up his game.

Adding insult to injury, Farabee is suspended for three games for an illegal hit in yesterday's loss.

The Flyers were kind of a B+ level team when healthy and now

Nolan Patrick - Hasn't played a game because of a migraine condition
Oskar Lindblom - Out for season with Ewing's Sarcoma diagnosis
Travis Konecny - Out indefinitely with a concussion
Joel Farabee - Suspended 3 games
Michael Raffl - Out for a couple weeks with a broken finger
Tyler Pitlick -Out with a concussion

I'll be surprised if they don't drop like a stone in the standings in the next month. They are going to struggle to score goals.

Fluid as it may be, suddenly the Flyers look as likely (if not more so) than the Sixers to be playing games in May.

If Simmons is out for the year (back injury looking scary--he had an MRI and was reportedly "very emotional" coming out of it) a first-round loss is highly probable.

That's a valid concern.

I would think the team should be able to win a 1st round matchup.

Conversely, since this is a Flyers thread, if Patrick is able to return the Flyers probably don't need to make any trades. He has been practicing with the team in skills practices and should be able to do contact drills soon. He'll have to go to the Phantoms to condition, but could be up for the stretch run.and into the playoffs.

Well that's a subject for another thread (even if I brought them up) but right now they'd open without home court against a team that's 3-1 against them (including win in Philly).

In any case the Flyers are closer to a #2 seed right now than the Sixers are, and would probably have a better chance to win a second round if they get there (partly because hockey's more unpredictable and partly because the Sixers will be probably be playing the Bucks).

I think Patrick is still too uncertain to mean no trades, but it might mean being a little less ambitious.
