Yes, but mlb.com's list of Phils draftees shows Burkholder as signed, with the bonus amount as reported by Callis:

Not really a changed opinion. They clearly targeted an overslot 2nd pick after picking a top pick they knew would come under slot. Guessing these 2 were the ones they zeroed into before the draft and nothing transpired that would have changed their mind. Nori clearly was going to be there when they picked (which came first). Imagine they had a backup in case Burkholder did not make it to them but Burkholder could have been signaling his bonus demands to make it more likely he lasted.

If picks could be traded this might have transpired differently. Since they couldn't, the Phillies zeroed in on the 2 guys they liked and probably got them (without knowing if there is anyone on the 2nd pick they preferred).

I'm still meh on the draft. I don't know how many OFs one system needs. I'd have still gone with Brecht at 27. But if Nori and/or Burkholder turn into major leaguer plus players the Phillies will have been correct.

Oh I was clearly disappointed in the first round and have always thought older players get overrated. Happy to be wrong about Miller last year (though he dropped from where he was rated). Nori was selected BEFORE his ranking which is different.

I just don't believe there is a hidden analytics benefit to going after older players. I have some trust in Barber though in identifying good baseball players, so fingers crossed. In general though this was a pretty safe and boring draft and generally I like a couple more risky swings for the fences. Sometimes they become Ryan Madson or Logan O'Hoppe. None of those picks this year.

Nori has the skills to be a solid 3rd/4th OF. He's probably a higher floor than most of the options.
Burkholder has a higher ceiling, but much higher risk.

I'd suspect they see Nori as someone who should move fast, he's physically mature, if he has good swing mechanics it's just about pitch recognition. The defense would make him valuable as a 4th OF if he has a decent hit tool (a level above Pache or Rojas). So it's a good pick if he can get to Philly in say 2027.

If Keith Law is correct, then the Phillies took the chance that his ability to impact the ball is there, he’s just cutting off his strength at the expense of a broad setup. Fingers crossed it’s as simple as that.

The Phils tried a moneyball strategy with Nori. They signed the older prospect who fell due to his age (went against the ideas of the other teams). I don't particularly care if he ever gets to his power if he can make consistent contact, draw walks, and spray the ball all over. That has value; we shouldn't try to turn every hitter into a power hitter...

PS--it really annoys me that moneyball autocorrects to moneybag! I end up going back to edit that days later!

I don't think Nori is a high floor prospect. He is still very risky given that his age makes one ask questions about his performance plus coming from a cold weather state (Michigan) he has less of that comparative experience.

The Phillies like his tools and makeup and think $2.5 million was a fair price for that. They are pricing him like the 40th pick in the draft and not the 27th so they can get another prospect in that range (Burkholder). But this is clearly a low floor/high ceiling strategy.

Maybe the long term thinking is that they just need speed everywhere. They are in danger of becoming a team of DHs and we probably want Bryce to be that DH in 3-5 years anyway. Speed allows them lineup options and likely defensive versatility. Spikerman is not really a SS but we just drafted 2 CFs ahead of him and still have guys like Crawford, Boyd, and Saltiban lurking around as above average speed players who can also play CF.
