Of course there is the repeated rumor (from Bodner and others close to the team) that Hinkie wanted to pick Porzingis instead of Okafor but was prevented from doing that by management because of the "status" of Okafor as an NCAA champion and player of the year.
You could argue that with Porzingis's injuries he wouldn't have been a great pick, either.
Hinkie always claimed that drafting was a process where luck played a large role and that the only way to "win" the draft was to have enough assets that you could afford to miss on some. So he tried to do that.
And now we sit with Embiid, Simmons, a hopefully unbroken Fultz, TJ, Cov, and other future assets thanks, still, to Hinkie. He played the game well, and I would welcome him back.
