Interesting to me that the only international arms on the top 30 are from Italy and Taiwan. We need to get to the 31-40 range to see Latin American arms that the Phillies signed. Some of this may be cyclical, but it just reinforces the importance of the top of the draft for our pitching depth.

Interesting that BA ranks Anderson Navas slightly ahead (or basically even at that point in the list) with Jalvin Arias. I do wonder if we have found our latest gem since the buzz on him without a huge bonus is so strong.

And the ZIPS version (non-human rankings). Zips does NOT like the Phillies in general. Only 7 of the top 500 where the next lowest organizations have 10 in the top 500. But the computer does like Rincon! The Phillies generally are not super young at every level including their strong ones like Clearwater, so that is probably part of the low computer rankings.

If you look at the breakout roster, it is really obvious (again) how weak the system is on the mound. Based on just the position player prospects this would be a top-10 system.

Abel and Painter are really important prospects. We really have not devoted many other high picks and international dollars to pitching. There is a whole lot riding on those 2. Part of the reason we stuck with Nola and Wheeler I guess. There just is not a lot of depth and room for error on the starting pitching side.

Pitching is where they've had their greatest success in LA, and usually low budget guys.
One of those thing where you throw a lot of prospects against the wall and a few stick.

I mean, it's almost refreshing to hear that, since it was only pitching for a while. After Abel and Painter they deliberately pivoted to bats. Let's hope all four of those first-rounders still make a contribution.

You keep saying this but it is not really true. We have few Latin American pitching prospects. Not spending money is not a strategy. Every organization has a few inexpensive pitchers that make it. We need a strategy where we develop more prospects from Latin America than the average organization, not less as we are currently doing.

Interesting that Rincon gets the start at SS over the other prospects (especially Caba) and that De La Cruz is playing (no other 1B prospects below AAA...). Tait is playing but not catching.

Bergolla playing 2B and batting 9th?
