I've never been comfortable with Progressives because while they're "nicer," they have the same moral certainty as MAGAs, that is, since their heart is pure they shouldn't be constrained by law or rule.
The Founding Fathers were wary of the passions of the "mob," and built a system that makes change difficult.
You can amend the Constitution, but only by putting together a super majority - which is right b/c you're binding future generations, which you shouldn't do without a social consensus.
Majority rule oft leads to repression of minorities.
Relying on the Supreme Court to get your way instead of building consensus leads to division and suspicion of the Courts.
Politics is the art of compromise, extremism is the enemy of good government because "the best is the enemy of the good," true believers on the Left or Right oppose the compromises needed to move forward.
On the other hand, I wish the Supreme Court would rule that "one man, one vote" preludes gerrymandering and force states to use politically neutral processes to draw Congressional districts.
Trump should go to jail, not because of personal animus, but his handling of top secret material would get anyone else a ten year jail sentence - and he should be no exception. "If you can't do the time, don't do the crime."
Jan 6 is trickier, unless there is a smoking gun, being an asshole is not a criminal offense (or we'd have to lock up a good percentage of the country).
