Both parties do culture wars most of the time these days it seems. It's a narcotic, especially for each party's friendly media that preaches on these "wars" breathlessly to their choirs.
The problem goes deeper than the parties themselves, and I place most of the blame on a media that plays favorites for ratings and eschews objective journalism as it's been traditionally defined. I'm continually amazed that Mrs. Jazz, an MSNBC viewer, knows far more than me about Boebert and Gaetz and the other Trumpers that MSNBC devotes gobs of airtime to. Meanwhile, MSNBC viewers have never been treated to an interview with RFK, Jr., the only serious Democratic challenger to that party's senile and frail incumbent. But, of course, he appears on Fox with regularity.
Partisan media has changed the way we consume "news" in ways that, IMO, exacerbate differences in lifestyles and values so they become "wars". The parties are apparently happy to oblige, since these are the issues that are easy to grasp and gin up as mortal threats to their respective bases.
