I've told you how I intend to vote - it's not for Trump. I saw one of my neighbors had a Cornel West sign. I wish he were on the ballot. The point of voting third party, at least in Pennsylvania, is to preserve the option for the future. The Libertarian Pary is on the ballot in PA only because it has a history of being on the ballot in PA. PA won't let its citizens organize to present other options, like Mr. West. My vote for Chase Oliver has a purpose in a state as invested in the two party system as PA.
I cannot vote for Harris because of her unacceptable policy positions when she last ran for President. Price controls? Taxes on unrealized appreciation? Singel payor healthcare with no private option? That's radical stuff. Keep in mind that she's only ran for President once, in 2020, and presented her ideas to the voters as a choice. This year's she's been installed as the nominee. Nothing she announces now has the stamp of democratic authenticity. She has been annointed as our savior: so heed or beware her current words accordingly as your cynicism dictates.
I don't like Trump because he has shattered the comity that used to exist in this country, especially at the personal level. As i noted above, reactions to and against Trump (including TDS and the recent escalation to multiple assassination attempts) have split families and cost friendships, and I am weary of it. I am also sick and tired of Trumps's treatment of the Presidency as reality show, as kayfabe and fakery. And I am sick and tired of the Democrats going along with it, feeding it, and ultimately enabling it.
I certainly believe in a social contract. But I don't believe in a two party system that has devolved into a perverse exercise in tribalism. I love team sports because it provides the most healthy outlet for tribalism (Dallas, as even you and I, julio, will agree, sucks). Politics? Not so much.
