I agree that too many Republicans have been unwilling to publicly stand up to Trump, afraid to alienate his base. This will be the third straight election I will not be voting Republican for President, and have said so publicly on forums such as this.
The GOP has ostensibly become a Jacksonian party, difficult to recognize as the same party that produced such conservatives as Reagan, Kemp and Kasich. Neither party cares anymore about fiscal rectitude, and both have kicked the can on the solving the looming funding crisis for Social Security and Medicare, on which ALL of us rely or will rely. Of the two, I blame the Republicans more because I expect them to lead on such matters.
The Dems' problem is not that they have failed to point out how bad Trump is, but that they have done so employing "existential threat" rhetoric that has served to galvanize Trump's supporters while (it now appears) providing cover for real political violence . Trump does it too, of course, but he's so cartoonish and ridiculous that his own supporters dont take it seriously. By contrast, the Dems' tone is deadly serious, and it is amplified daily by the major networks.
The dam is about to break.
