A real sidebar here, on my recent interactions with chatgpt.
Brother and I were discussing the Spielberg movies (happy anniversary, Jaws!) and I asked if he remembered when we were watching Duel (Spielberg's breakout TV movie) one summer evening in the early 70s and being upset that Prez Nixon gave a speech that interrupted it, frustrating us to no end. He had no memory of that.
So, back in 2025, brother said let's check that dubious memory with ChatGPT. It told us when Duel premiered, some date in November '71, and it seems Nixon didn't do a telecast speech that night, so nope.
In summary: no, President Nixon did not interrupt a showing of Duel. It's likely a mistaken or fictional rumor.
So when I had time later I looked up a list of Nixon prime time speeches, found one in the summer of '73, dismissing the Watergate hearings, checked the TV listings, and there was Duel, airing on ABC nationwide.
I asked chatgpt if Nixon spoke that night and then asked it if Duel was on that night, then it said oh, you're right.
It still comes up as an unfactual rumor if you ask it without knowing more details.
A day or two later we had that game that ended on a catcher's interference. I wanted to find details of the only other known occurence of that game ending play (committed by Johnny Bench).
ChatGPT replied that Bench was a really good catcher, so he probably never did that.
Then someone in the media gave us the date, and sure enough, you can find a little bit about that game on the internet.
Tl/dr chatgpt doesn't always give you good info. (Not saying that ChatGPT is incorrect about the drug test info, just that I found it amusing how it answered two questions in a row confidently and incorrectly, just like any real human!)
