It’s only comprehensible to those in the know, even today. If I bounced that off my wife, she would think Fox was showing some game related to stock car racing, not baseball.

The Phils talent evaluation team has racked up a few whiffs, but Duran looks really strong and fills the biggest need on the team. Likely differing opinions on the Vegas light show that comes with him. He sure backed it up. 4-star interview, too - knows just enough English to nearly not use the interpreter. A happy guy that can throw a ball through a brick wall. Rob can hardly sleep.

Both Bader and Duran contribute right away to huge W. Quick validation of trade effort. Had hoped for more, but the other players were likely just too expensive... cause I think DD really wanted one more.

Good for the Phils and good for Rojas that now he's working on his hitting every day and not in the Phils' lineup making outs at the plate. He's gotten better, still not good.

Great series against the Tigers. Playoff level baseball.

A show like this would sure play well in the fall.

Yeah, I was there too and it was absolutely maddening...until the bottom of the 8th. The Duran entrance and the four pitch save were epic!

Man, when have we had a real lockdown 1-2-3 closer? Yeah, Lidge went 48 for 48 in 2008 but so many of his saves even that season were of a white knuckle variety--he had a 1.226 WHIP that season which says he let on at least one baserunner per inning. And, even the sainted Tug McGraw loaded the bases before getting the final outs in Games 5 and 6 in 1980. Then, we've had all the Mitch Williamses, Jose Mesas and Hector Nerrises who made us squirm before the games ended.

Duran does have an era. I love the first 2 saves, but know there will be nail biters ahead.

Yes and a 1.13 WHIP too! He has allowed two hits six times this season, and two walks three times. He started the year with a 27.00 ERA, allowing a run in 1/3 of an inning.

Lidge definitely put the odd guy on base; all of these power arm guys with a breaking out pitch usually do, but if they avoid home runs and have the ability to strike out the side it doesn't matter. Even Neris was that guy at his best, we just didn't get it often enough.

Of course in that era they pitched a lot more innings, and he was running on fumes near the end. He threw 8 innings in the NLCS, the only way a closer would do that today is if the series went 8 games, then 7 2/3 in the WS.

Exc series performance against a contender. Great baseball from both teams. Pitching and D looked playoff. Seemed like the Tigers OF's made about half a dozen diving catches.

Many are tired of watching Stott's light hitting, but it seems like about every three games he makes an all-world defensive play. He's here to stay.

Duran is nearly always at 3 digits. If he hits you, the ball might stick.

This is a city with an entire generation of fans that has bullpen trust issues because a Phillies closer once surrendered a World Series-ending walk-off home run.

It's true. You would have thought Lidge could cure it, but then he helped lose the '09 series! [And we only got him in the first place because he needed to leave Houston [and the Astros still didn't even lose that NLCS].

According to the Inquirer this morning, there may soon be something available in the Ballpark App to make phones synchronize with the entrance.

I always thought the stadium lights took 20 minutes to warm up when you turn them on and off. Guess they are all LED lights now.

Yes, the stadiums now can turn them off and on in an instant, so you'll see lots of light shows where the lights 'flicker' on and off. Still looks weird to me on TV but in the park it's just another bit of entertainment.
