Trout will probably agree to an extension with a trade though. That - along with what he would presumably bring to a 2019 or 2020 team that is trying to win the World Series - will have a lot more value to us as a buyer. No point in worrying about trading "the farm" yet.
I mean, Machado was to be avoided because the Phillies weren't going to win the World Series, but with hindsight, and assuming he would have re-signed (unknowable in Machado's case but a given if they were to trade for Trout, they won't do it otherwise), what if the Phillies had traded Crawford, Kilome, McKenzie Mills and one more big piece (Medina or Halseley) for Machado? He'd be here, the Phillies would get something else for Santana (the Mariners certainly plan to) and they'd be focused on Harper or another OF, and would know exactly what they can afford to pay a pitcher and reliever.
To get back on topic, Pazos is obviously going to be on the Mike Williams Expressway (which should probably be named for Rios now).
