I would certainly be interested in having someone who's not locked into DH. But if they sign Tucker or Bellinger - both also with risk - do they trade Marsh? And the RHB options are just meager, with or without Schwarber (and he hits lefties better than all our RHBs at this point no?).
Anyway, I don't think the Phillies have the imagination you want anyway. Whether it's MIddleton or DD or both they are not going to let Schwarbs go. That's a PR decision as much as a baseball decision, right or wrong.
From Gelb's mailbag, re the general options, or need for a trade, to get a new OF or RHB.
> Here are the best righty-hitting outfielders who will be free agents, listed in descending order by their 2025 fWAR: Miguel Andujar, Rob Refsnyder, Starling Marte, Ahmed Rosario, Tommy Pham and Austin Slater.
> Itâs not what you want.
> The top six outfield free agents â Tucker, Cody Bellinger, Trent Grisham, Ryan OâHearn, Mike Yastrzemski and Cedric Mullins â all bat left-handed.
> If the Phillies find a middle-of-the-order right-handed hitter who plays the outfield, it will have to be through a trade. Also, a tall task.
