I'm assuming advance sales were just enough for the two games to make the single-admission logistically tricky (especially at the last-minute) because they are surely not going to draw that well/make money on the second game.

Maybe the manager also preferred the team to have a break? You don't get the 26th man, I gather, because it doesn't officially count as a doubleheader (but I believe that means you could also option and call up someone between games).

You get the 26th man in any day with two games, but with less than 48 hours notice you only get it in the second game.

Phillies will put Edubray Ramos on the DL before Game 2. Luis Garcia will be active and Yacksel Rios will be the 26th man.

I wonder if the five-man bench is here to stay. Ultimately Crawford, Quinn and Florimon instead of Plouffe, Walding and Valentin. If they make a move to get an OF, hold off on Quinn until 9/1, and Altherr's on the bubble if Quinn and the new guy play well. If they get an IF, Florimon could be out of luck (assuming neither Crawford nor Kingery would be sent to AAA).

Clearly Altherr needs to play regularly for awhile and get his hitting back. Kingery also looks like he needs more AAA at bats but is playing regularly in the majors and getting some hits, so I guess he will continue to play regularly for the Phillies. He may well develop as well this way as he would have with more AAA time. I hope the Phillies brass knows what they are doing with Scott.

Any guess as to replacements?

Wow. Quinn or Crawford? Trade? Or just Eflin and another reliever

Good day (Sunday) for Hoskins, goes 3 for 9 with a double and two home runs, 3 runs scored, 4 RBIs. A hot Hoskins will sure be welcome in the coming weeks. Herrera was 3 for 8 with a home run. Another player who can really get hot for awhile.

I would not be surprised to see Quinn called up. I feel he would be an improvement over Walding at this time. Let's see what he does. Walding continues to struggle with the bat in the majors. I would prefer a 5 man bench and 8 man bullpen but I know Kapler likes his relievers. Maybe if Hunter, Neshek, and Morgan can continue to pitch well, 8 in the pen may be enough.

Well obviously anyone would be an improvement over Walding, Plouffe or Valentin, and Walding and Plouffe probably don't have a future here. But demoting Altherr is a big move. Though a perfectly reasonable. one.

Crawford is at least a week away. Not sure he has even hit yet. Quinn could be a possibility. He is clearly healthy. Just would have been nice to see him in AAA for a week.
