Listen, it's hard enough for male managers of color to get one of those jobs. This is probably just a first step, but an important one. I think most players could handle it just fine if an owner and general manager stepped up to do it.
With the Giants specifically, at this moment, it doesn't really make much sense to make an internal hire. Fans did not like the way Kapler ran the team, even if Zaidi was at least 50% responsible for that (both in terms of the roster and the way they were utilized). They want change, and if Zaidi is still running the show with someone from the same staff, he's got no cover if it doesn't work out.
My guess is all of these interviews, while sincere, are also meant to boost each of these coaches stature just be making them candidates (especially since they won't all necessarily keep their jobs under the new manager).
