Have to think Charlotte / Raleigh / Durham is pretty high on the list for teams.

Charlotte maybe, but Durham already has the Durham Bulls which is a vibrant AAA club with good attendance. There's also the Mudcats (single A team for the Brewers) out in Zebulon which is not too far east for those folks who live in Raleigh.
That doesn't preclude a major league team moving here, but it's not like this is a baseball desert.

side note: Guaranteed Rate Field is the most soulless name I've ever heard for a ballpark. If I had to play in that, I'd want to move too.

The White Sox have been rumored to move several times over the past few decades. I remember driving past what is now Tropicana Field in the late 1980s and hearing it was a rumored destination for the White Sox or Giants (and look how that place has worked out).

Kenny Williams was a rare (these days) high level executive who was a former player. The only current ones I can think of are Sam Fuld, Chris Young in Texas, Jerry DiPoto in Seattle, and Brandon Gomes of the Dodgers. Not so many Lee Thomases, Woody Woodwards, and Ruben Amaro Juniors anymore.

I certainly can see the A's move. I watched a replay of a few walk offs last night. on the A's walk off homer, the number of fans in the stands could have fit into the Phils dugout.

That should not be a reflection on Oakland and their fan base. The management is awful, the community knows the owners sold them out and no players want to play there during this complete mess. The city/region has a vast population, a massive average income per capita and a long history of loving GOOD baseball. The Bay Area deserves better but money won the day, as usual.

As the Yankees attempt to lose 10 straight tonight this pattern is fascinating. Almost all the 10-game losing streaks in the last 100+ years have been recent. Parity really is a problem. Not saying the Yankees are not trying to compete like some on the list, but it really does seem that competitiveness has taken a hit in recent years.

And there are only 3 more on the extended list prior to 1999.

I am still not convinced that any metro area except New York and LA can support two teams. Even in Chicago, which is larger than the remaining ones, the White Sox haven't been supported well, probably since Bill Veeck owned them. And usually one or both of the Chicago teams has been bad at any given time.

That may be true in all other sports as well. The Bay Area is down to one NFL team now.

Yeah but if the real criteria was which cities or metro areas could support a team in a vacuum there are a lot of markets that would bite the dust (and others that never should have happened), even with just one team. I don't think sharing the Bay Area with SF is among the three or four biggest reasons why Oakland if failing (#1 of which at this point is that their ownership wants them to fail).

is this 10+ game losing streaks? If so I think this is wrong.

This wikipedia article says there were 11 losing streaks of 18 or more games in that 1913-2010 time frame so the number of 10+ must be much larger

Editted to add.. The phillies have 29 losing streaks of 10+ games since 1913. including 2 different 12 game losing streaks in 1919.

And the irony is that in the earlier period baseball generally followed the philosophy that dominant, rich teams who stripped the other teams of their stars were in the best interest of baseball, while the last 13 seasons are all within the period when MLB strove for parity and shoveled money and extra draft picks at the poor teams.
