Phillie in 2014-15 in case anyone forgot

The Chicago White Sox have named Grady Sizemore as their interim manager after firing Pedro Grifol earlier today. The team said it plans to name a permanent replacement after the regular season ends.

Sizemore was a three-time All-Star with Cleveland over a 10-year career.

That good game for Klassen was actually back in Low A. The Angels apparently load their best prospects there because the franchise is relatively close geographically.

Then Klassen gives up 5 runs in 3 innings in AA because he probably was not ready having never mastered High A. The Angels are just not that good at this player development thing. Hoping for the best for Klassen, but it seems like they are yanking him around when he has major control and command issues to still work out.

My mistake. IE used to be high A before MLB got their paws in controlling the minors. Agreed probably moved too fast.

That was a weird trade where both principles (Dominguez and Hays) might have been too expensive to keep next year for the raise they would get. Both teams will probably keep them (and Dominguez pitching well does make a $8 million/1 year deal pretty certain), but at the time of the trade it really was shuffling players to teams that might have larger roles for them.

Relievers!

The final say will obviously come from Brandon Hyde. However, for guys like Kimbrel or Gregory Soto, he needs to focus on their poor pitching this season, not their impressive track record. Domínguez has been the best reliever for the Orioles over the last few weeks and deserves to assume the closer role because of it. Things are subject to change due to a variety of things, but for now, the Orioles have their closer in Domínguez.

Relievers are fungible crapshoot evils. I have hated them since the 1993 post-season. It’s not fair of me to label them as evil, because they are relievers because they are lesser pitchers. There are some exceptions like Mariano Rivera, But if you count on them, they just break your heart. Never get fond of them, because the next year, they will stink or be injured. Pick them up off the scrap heap, bring them up from the minors. Always have lots of them, but never buy their jersey. REIEVERS, I hate them.

We shall see with Seranthony. He generally has a couple of nice runs during a season - earlier this year with the Phils he was very good for about a month and a half.

He's been pitching the 8th and 9th for the O's and is on a nice little run, but he's only seen two situations that could be described as high-leverage. He got a hold entering a game with a one-run lead in the 8th against the Padres; the other night, he got the save entering the 9th with a 2-run lead.

He's got experience in these situations, which is the one positive for him, but if I were the Os I would have been hoping this streak started in mid-September rather than now. There have been a lot of long periods of mediocrity between his hot streaks over the last couple of years.

I don’t know whether it’s smart to count on Seranthony as the closer, but I’m pretty sure it’s smart not to count on Kimbrel.

I can see the scenario now... Game 7 of a hard fought WS. Orioles up by 1. 9th inning. Orioles bullpen totally gassed.. They call upon Gregory Soto who strikes out Schwarber, Turner and Harper.

It is hard not to be amused/scared by the idea of facing them in the World Series. Plus it would be awesome anyway. I'd say the Guardians and Yankees look like better bets but nobody expected the two teams last year either.

Of course in that theoretical Game 7 we'd probably be facing Eflin (another bonus!) or Corbin Burnes in the 9th (and them Wheeler or Suarez).

I say bring them on. Revenge for 1983 would be very sweet.

I wish them good luck with SA as their closer, not a choice I would recommend.

2022 Seranthony maybe. But that's the thing. Nobody knows anything. And I don't think he's actually their closer. He's just gotten a few saves, is doing well in a small sample, that one writer thinks he's the best choice - which has as much to do with the other choices as him.

It's pretty amazing to me that the Phillies got two players for Soto. The Seranthony/Hays deal was more of a even contract/change of scenery swap.
