Deadline acquisitions really should be largely based on picking up salary with second tier prospects. The only top prospect they should probably think of trading is O'Hoppe because of their catching depth. We really should try to hang on to our top starting prospects because getting one decent starter out of Abel, Painter, and McGarry within the next 3-4 years is probably all we can expect given injuries.

Well, for sure, I'm not saying "trade them all, they never turn into anything for the Phillies anyway," but it's still a fair thing to feel in our gut. "And "mediocre (or average) for five years" is pretty much the state of the franchise and they (still!) need to push in either one direction or the other IMO. With Harper's injury and the way JT and Castellanos have produced, that direction could well be "rebuild" but it will never happen.

The fear of trading top prospects, at least at the deadline, is a bit of a straw man anyway because it almost never happens (even O'Hoppe is probably best reserved for an off-season deal unless he fetched controllable talent).

Got to think Quinn was not vaccinated as I expected him to be called up for the Toronto series.

Looks like he kept getting hurt with the Royals. Played 3 games from 6/18-6/23 then out for 8 days. Played 4 games from 7/1 to 7/6 (where he went 5-16 with 2 HRs and 3 BBs) and then disappeared.

Organizations also need to clear space in their 180-person domestic roster limit for new draftees (some will sign 2022 contracts) so now is the time where players not in an organization's future get released. Guessing the Phillies will quietly release 10+ players in the next few weeks also.

I seem to recall discussion that Quinn would surely be an everyday player for the Royals once they traded all their guys at end of July. Of course now they might not even be able to trade those guys.

Would Quinn have counted as part of - or not part of - the Phillies' 85% once he was on the 60 last year?

Perhaps acquiring Drew Waters from the Braves made Quinn expendable. Always had potential - I wish him well.
