I personally would have liked to make Miller and Harrison our starting 2B platoon, trade Segura, use that money on a pitcher, and then Kingery could move to 2B when Bohm came up. But c'est la vie.
Miller also played a lot in part because our best LH bench bat was hurt and he could also platoon at 3B with Franco or Rodriguez. Neither of those jobs are open this year. And I kind of doubt he'll capture that lightning in a bottle again.
You would think Walker or Harrison are still going to make at least $1 million plus incentives, but it's not guaranteed, and they don't take up a 40-man spot. Clearly some teams were waiting to add a few guys (including the Phillies) when the 60-day began.
They signed Hunter because he was willing to take less $ guaranteed than some of the NRI guys will get if they make the roster. I imagine if I was those guys I'd actually be unamused; they thought they were competing for two open spots and now there's only one.
