Howie Kendrick became a favorite of mine during his time with the Phillies. I thought he did a very nice job. Sorry to hear of this injury. Injuries have plagued him of late. I wish him a complete recovery.

Mine to, he was a very nice player for us last year and his unusual combination of positions makes him a valuable guy. Hopefully this is just a bump in the road for him, he is the type of player that probably can hang on for years as a super-sub/utility/PH type. Solid player, hope he can recover from a pretty tough injury.

He really had an impressive couple of years (counting this one) but that is a tough one to come back from,and he's been hurt three straight seasons. He is still under contract with the Nats next year; after that, at his age, he's probably a minor league invite guy.

Sad, but I have a lot of trouble feeling bad for Singleton in the same way as a guy like Quinn or Howie Kendrick. I can't imagine having your dream in front of you and throwing it away in the way Singleton has, not my place to judge obviously, but sad.

Well, he earned more being a screw up in Baseball than most people will ever in their lifetime so even less reason to feel bad.

I feel bad for him because he is apparently a drug addict. If he was just a kid who liked to smoke a little pot - which probably describes more than half of all athletes - he wouldn't have ended up in this position.

And also I don't think players should be tested for pot, but, they are.

He was, though Santana as PTBNL was worse. Funny how neither team really got much of anything from that trade (nor lost much of anything) as far as it affecting their current situations. Astros were originally still so high (sorry!) on Singleton that they gave him the Kingery-esque contract though.

Actually Santana was the guy that I was thinking of, so thanks for correcting me. But I forgot that the Astros also gave Singleton that big contract.

Trevor May scheduled to start against Allentown tonight. He has less than 10 IP this (but good ERA) after missing all of last season to injury. He was the lesser half of the trade for Revere.

Wasn't May actually the prize of that trade? Top prospect, whereas Worley was perceived to be a low-ceiling major leaguer. Or am I forgetting someone else?

The saving grace for the Astros in the Pence trade is probably what they ended up getting for Cosart in the deal with the Marlins. What they got for Santana from the Brewers was largely inconsequential in the grand scheme of things. Zeid got hurt and Singleton ended up being a bust. If the Phillies kept Pence and the Astros didn't cash in Cosart at the right time, the Phillies probably would have won that deal. Of course, we know that in the end all we had was a decent season from Tommy Joseph. The consensus at the time was that Wade fleeced Amaro. That didn't really happen though.

Hamels' velocity was down in Spring Training and his first few starts. Last month it has been mostly back.
