Major League Baseball and the Players Association are not ignoring the complaints voiced by Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Zack Wheeler and Minnesota Twins shortstop Carlos Correa about the playing surface at Sutter Health Park in West Sacramento.

Officials from MLB and the PA are in regular communication on the matter, according to spokespersons on both sides. Murray Cook, MLB’s field and stadium consultant, and Clay Wood, and the Athletics’ longtime groundskeeper, are among those monitoring the field.

To facilitate resurfacing, the league in January relocated the Triple-A Sacramento River Cats’ scheduled home series this week to Tacoma. The plan during the break is to rebuild the mounds, bullpens and home plate areas with new clay and add more soil sensors to help monitor moisture levels across the field.

If they were going to have them play in a AAA ballpark, they might as well have moved heaven and earth to have them play at the AAA park in Las Vegas to give them a head start on their history there.

They just couldn't leave the San Francisco area (or TV contract) yet. Also I think they would rather play their first game in the fancy MLB park. This way the LV fans didn't know they are half-assing it. I doubt many of them are even following the team yet. Their current crowd is a weird mix of Oakland people who are willing to still care and curious Sacramento people (and road fans).

SF Giants acquire Rafael Devers from the Red Sox for a package of prospects, including Jordan Hicks and Kyle Harrison.

I guess the Red Sox were done with the Devers headache. Pretty crazy to give up that talent, but it definitely opens up payroll space and the DH spot. Is Schwarber on Boston's radar again?

The NL is absolutely loaded, and the NL West the best division in the league.

Fascinating deal that we really don't see too often any more. Probably a huge win for the Red Sox if Devers was never going to play much defense for them. Prospects are their number one pick from last time (Tibbs, ranked 4th in the system) and then a rookie level pitcher (Bello, ranked 22 by Fangraphs). Then the two major league pitchers of which one can say Hicks was probably a misused closer and Harrison a young pitcher that is having growing pains but could be really good in a couple of years.

Red Sox not trying to win this year that much, but they already had too many bats when everyone is healthy. This trades a good player with a fair but really long contract and if they can re-sign Bregman they may be better off.
