Famously weak draft
Zack Greinke pitched three seasons for the Dodgers, and his parting gift was an All-Star catcher. When Greinke became a free agent in 2015, he generated a compensation draft pick, No. 32 overall, that the Dodgers used to select Smith, who’s now a two-time All-Star at age 29. Their top pick in that draft was Lux, a highly touted middle infielder who struggled early this season but had a strong second half. All told, 14 players from that 2016 Dodgers draft class — including injured starters May and Gonsolin — have reached the major leagues.
Walker Buehler also drafted the same year as Randolph and Kingery.
