DSL catcher Ryan Asencio was placed on the 60-day DL...not sure why. Kyle Young was DL-ed in Lakewood (7-day).

In his last 10 games Mickey Moniak is hitting .270 with 2 HR, 2 2Bs, and 4 walks. His slash line is 270/341/486 for an 827 OPS. He's hit in 9 of those 10 games. His iso is a very respectable .216. Let's see 10 more games just like those.

Nice start to the day, Williamsport wins 4-2 and GCL East {squire's favorite team] leads 8-2 in the 9th. Two things of particular significance to me...Marchan seems like a very good prospect, stole his 9th base in 21 games today. Incredible for a catcher.

And Carlos DeLa Cruz hit his 3rd HR in the past week [one in a suspended game] and is performing almost beyond any hope or expectation.

Irvin pitches 6 scoreless innings but a blown save from Windle costs him a win.
As an illustration of the unfairness of some stats, Thompson started the 7th and left with one out after a hit and two walks. Windle got the final outs without giving up a hit or a walk, but a run scored so he gets the blown save. LV scored two next time up to make Windle the winning pitcher in the 3-1 win today. Neris pitched a scoreless 8th.

Maybe Thompson can be included in a deal in the coming weeks.

Was at the BlueClaws DH today. A few real quick observations:

Jhailyn Ortiz's 3 hits (double in game 1, double & HR in game 2) all were absolute rockets to left field; I think all were on first-pitch fastballs. The ball jumps off his bat like no other BlueClaws hitter. You also get a sense he has an idea of what he's doing up there, not just swing hard in case you hit it.

I've always been a Daniel Brito fan. He's long, lean, and athletic in the field, at bat and on the bases. He could have been thrown out on any or all of his steals tonight, but the catcher wasn't Jorge Alfaro back there.

Armas was around 92 mph most of the time; his swings and misses were mostly on his offspeed stuff, I think a change-up.

I was surprised to see Will Stewart working at 94 mph (and touching 95 a couple times) on the gun in game 2. He settled into about 92 by the 4th-5th inning.

Well, minor league aficionados, enjoy yesterday's box scores because I am not sure we will have another one any better this season. All 7 clubs won [the only blemish occurred in Game 1 of Lakewood's DHer and that came on a home run with 2 outs in the final inning!] and there were so many impressive performances, both offensively and on the mound.

Pujols, Hernandez and Ortiz all homered, Brito went 4-4 with 3 stolen bases, Luke Williams continued to hit well, several of the rookie youngsters continued to hit not just well, but very well and it was definitely a day to enjoy the box scores.

On the hill, Irvin, Kilome, Requena, Stewart nd Armas pitched extremely well and Tom Windle, who I still believe will pitch in Philadelphia this year, won his 9th game with another stellar bullpen outing.

You have to look very hard to find any negatives, maybe Thompson's blown save in LHV and Hall's 0-5 as he continues to struggle in Reading.

Otherwise, this was a wonderful day on the pharm and while W-L records are secondary to other things, its still fun to win and worth noting that the system is now 35 games over .500, an amazing turnaround from a lowpoint of -14 which occurred in May.
